Most of the applicants here came to Canada from a student and have moved forward step by step to survive until today. I don't understand why it took them a year or two to process our simple citizenship applications? Are we looking like terroists or they are just doing nothing on our case?
I got my PR in 4-5 months (6 months regular) and involved significantly more admin than citizenship (medical, qualifications, work experience etc). So why am I approaching 2 years with LPP not started and not allocated to an officer?
Students and permanent residents? Sure, they bring in money, pay taxes and fuel the economy- without having any political voice.
There's a low political priority for new citizens. It's not about inefficiency as much as it is resource. And Where resources get allocated, is an entirely political choice.
What I've learned about Canadian politics, past and present, is that people don't like to upset the Apple cart. You're expected not to question and not have any (reasonable) expectations. Many new citizens, having gone through a needlessly traumatic ordeal getting citizenship- see it as a badge of honour- and those who got it quickly- are quick to shout down the majority of us who have to wait for a long time and are upset about it.
If it had been indigenous people on strike/protest with a long-due list of demands, we know how that would end (Trudeau called in the military when that happened last, labelling them as terrorists).
Canada specialises in Kafkaesque politics. And as mere PRs, we get no say in it whatsoever.
