I made a mistake on my 2022 tax return which occurred due to a misunderstanding of my marital status and family situation at the time. I was single during the 2022 tax year, While preparing my tax return, I mistakenly assumed that because we share a child , I should file as "married" instead of "single."
I now understand that my relationship status should have been reported as "single" for the 2022 tax year since I was not legally married at that time.
I mistakenly indicated that I was "married," but I was in fact single throughout the 2022 tax year. I did not get married until March 2024 when I went back to my home country to legally married my longtime boyfriend who’s also father of my daughter which I have correctly reported on my 2023 tax return.
I have contacted CRA for the same case and they told me to write the letter, which I did already, I mailed it to Regional tax center to correct my 2022 tax return to Single but they told me to wait for 8-11 weeks for them to reassess my 2022 tax year which is too long.
Can I wait for CRA or Submit my application?
Advise me please if IRCC can ask CRA with anything to do with spousal application
