Congrats! Almost there but I'm sure it seems like forever!

On another note... It's so quiet in here! I just dropped in to read a few posts and there was barely anything to read. Hope everyone is ok and not getting too bummed out.
Hi Behopeful,

I know what you mean. I let days pass without coming on here but still nothing much to read!

Hello Everyone!
Quick question - does anyone know if St Lucia requires a visa to travel to Canada. There is an online application available to apply for the temporary resident visa but it did not allow me to complete the application. It says that (based on your answers) you can travel as a visitor to Canada (under 6 months) and no trv is required. Is this accurate? Does anyone have any information on this?

Thank you!

Agreed. They were free to come before, but last year they changed the rule so that people from barbados, st lucia, etc need a visa now. Its unfortunate.

Good luck with the TRV!

Hi MissD

Actually Barbados does not require a visa. But St Vincent does.

I am tempted to apply for a visit visa but I know it would never work :(

Thanks for your prompt replies. I know that is was implemented last year - the need for trv - but today when i was on the CIC website trying to apply online (I dont know, have any of you checked out the website recently), so yes, while i was trying to apply it asked for my client id, DOB and so forth. Theres a questionairre as well that asks what is your reason for visit, country of residency/ country that issued your passport, if you have any family members in canada and relationship and after you answer all the questions it said "based on your answers, you do not need a trv for a visit under 6 months" and it did not prompt me to go further with the online application - NOW this was updated in 2013 so maybe there has been some modification - i need to call a visa office ASAP. If this is the case this will be good news for a lot of couples living apart!

Hello,

You can call the office to verify if you want but it is right there on the website that St Lucia will be needing a visa. I am not sure why it is telling you that you do not need it online.

A question for those who got PPR...did u submit your original marriage certificate with your application? If you didnt, did POS request the original with PPR request?

You are correct - my bad. I had Barbados on the mind, as I was talking to a friend from there and he believes they will also need TRVs soon.

You could always TRY for one... ya never know? Most aren't successful, but I've heard of some that get approved after stage 1 approval. You're probably right that it wont succeed.. but if you ever have 75 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, it's worth a try. Plus, it won't HURT your application for PR. If anything, it would be proof that you could send in later showing that you wanted him to be with you in Canada and tried to get him to come, but he couldn't.

I tried before we applied PR and got rejected, despite showing some ties to his country (he was a full-time student with paid tuition for the year, return flight, etc). We might try again if we don't hear anything soon - but we're secretly hoping to be on of the lucky ones that hears early on about PR...

We applied prior to getting married and it got rejected.

And I dont see them approving one now in the midst of PR application with a baby due any minute now! It just adds more to his ties here even if he has ties down there too. So I guess we will just wait. With their 18 month timeline I guess we will hear from them closer to the end of this year...*sigh*

I think you will hear from them soon and before the summer your hubby will be in Canada. Have you been on the Cuba thread? That embassy is dishing out PPR's like water...most is after 3 months of file transfer.

Awe, sorry I didn't realize you'd applied before. It's a pretty crappy feeling when you get that rejection letter. I guess we're just in it for the long-haul.

How far along are you now? I love me some babies! ;D

I have never been on the cuba thread, but I'm going to check it out right now! LOL. It's crazy to me that they'd be moving so fast! Considering people from USA can't even GO to Cuba, you would think the immigration to Canada would be at least a little slower as a result of those tensions and us being so close with the USA.. but I guess not! lol. Our hubbies' countries are suffering though for nothing :( and it's taking em forever to get them to us. It is what it is, I guess. No use complaining cuz nothin happens when I do LOL

I hope you're right that we will hear soon. We're just past the 7 month mark from our application date. I had hope we'd hear early because we got our AOR super fast (within one month of transfer)... so I've been holding my breath... but so far not a peep. It's hard (as you know). I want to do things to begin to get ready for him (send him job listings, look for an apartment for us, etc), but it's pointless because the jobs I looked at a month ago are no longer hiring, the apartments I looked at are no longer available, etc. You just have to kind of sit back and wait and do nothing.. and it's hard! lol But that's no secret to anyone here.

This office is entirely too quiet. It's putting me in a bad mood. I just wish SOMEONE would get a PPR soon and get the momentum going and give the rest of us the confidence and boost we need to know that they are at least doing SOMETHING over there. ???

I think you need a (((BIG HUG))) and a :-*!

Hang in there, MissD! It's been quiet in Kingston this week too. We're hoping for a lot of PPR's by the end of the quarter, and that it includes yours too!
