My question regarding this topic.... Is how can your PC expire if you haven't re visited that country since obtaining the certificate?

The PC abroad will expire if you had it with you (ex. you were just keeping it, or accidentally forgot, once they issue it ), then you didn't pass it right away together with your Application or once Embassy ask you for it. Once you requested the PC abroad it's only valid for 3months (ex. today Sept 9 start counting today expiration Nov. 9). It doesn't matter if you haven't revisit that specific country, what matter is that once you stay abroad for more than 6months you have to provide PC.

i think what he/she meant is when u already send it to the embassy..

If CEM requested the PC and you send it right away in CEM then you haven't received your visa they won't ask another PC abroad anymore.

It still doesn't make sense to me....I mean I understand what your saying, but the expiry is stupid.

Example.....Someone get PC before leaving a country, as demonstrated by their passport stamps, work permits, visas, etc.

Upon passport request of said person, if there is no re-entry stamp after the date of exit, PC should still be good...no matter how many months it is.
It's just pure logic?

How to obtain a police certificate

In most cases, it is your responsibility to contact the police or relevant authorities and request the certificate. When doing so, you may have to:

provide information or documentation such as photographs, fingerprints or your addresses and periods of residence in the country or territory; and
pay a fee for the service.
To find out if you need a police certificate from a country or territory in which you lived for six months or longer, consult the Procedures for Obtaining Police Certificates. You will find information on how and where to obtain police certificates, including police or government contact information. If this information is unavailable, contact the national police agency or the country's or territory's embassy or consulate.

If you have lived in a country that has changed its name or status, the police certificate should come from the current national authorities of that country as specified on our website. If you are unable to obtain a police certificate from a country because you are a refugee from that country or for any other reasons, please provide a written explanation.

CIC will also do background checks in all the countries or territories in which you and your family members have lived. These checks will determine if you have had any arrests or convictions, or if you are a security risk to Canada.

regarding the above.....you could easily have travelled/re-entered under a different passport and/or a 2nd copy of the same passport. if you did not hand your passport in, and based only on what you gave with your application, how is the VO supposed to know what is or is not in your passport for entry/exit/re-entry stamps? (I put the strikethrough b/c I realized you had said "Upon passport request...." but the rest of what I mentioned is still applicable I think.

He said tho, "upon passport request". Meaning, the VO should have a copy of the physical passport of the applicant.
Anyway, it is very rare to use another passport as people need to hand over the old one when getting a new one.
