Hi there,

I'm working on my CEC application for myself and my spouse, we're both US citizens, and have been living in canada for 2+ years on a work visa.

've been finding conflicting information about WHERE to get fingerprints in Toronto to send into the FBI for a clearance letter from the US. Some people told me I should get them from a local police precinct, others told me the police won't do fingerprints for immigration purposes and i need to go to: commissionaires.ca

It seems like the police is cheaper, which would make me want to go there instead, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

Also, i've been trying to sort out how long its going to take to get the FBI clearance back from them. Some things i read make it sound like it will take awhile, others suggest that if you request it by a due date of when immigration needs the forms, they usually expedite it. With a standard FSW application, they tell you when they are ready for Police records, but with the CEC, i send it all in at once, so its not like there is a "due date" of when i need the FBI letter for. (other than me just wanting to get this thing in ASAP). is there a good timeline to give the FBI in these cases, when there isn't any real due date? just to get them to not let it sit on a shelf...?

thanks!

Hi pdo,

I had my prints done at the local police station (another town in Ontario, not Toronto), was cheaper than Commissionaires. Suggest you call them rather than relying on hearsay. Some say that UPS does it, but I think that's only in the USA. There are other services in Toronto too, google works rather well :)

As for processing time... I'm a US citizen too, and would recommend that you be sure to add your SSN to your print forms. I don't want to give false hope, for some reason my last request was processed in under a month - that almost caused me problems, because I was expecting 2-3 months and I can't submit until April - if they had come a week earlier, they'd have expired by then :) Can't really say why I got so lucky, so I wouldn't count on it, but I did send it express mail with a 2-month "immigration deadline" written on the outside of the envelope.

I got my fingerprints for FBI done from Worldwide Forensic Services Inc., 55 Town Centre Court, Scarborough. They are forensic professionals and proficient in taking fingerprints. Try them out. I believe their phone number is 416-915-7139.

You don't need digital fingerprints but I find that getting fingerprints done digitally almost guarantees the fingerprints won't be returned to you (this happened to me a few times)

Did you face any issues with the fingerprint taken at this agency?
How much did it cost?

PDO- I am curious what encouraged you to apply for PR. please see my situation, I can't decide if it is worth the hassle: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/to-pr-or-not-to-pr-that-is-the-question-t103134.0.html
In reply to this topic:
Vancouver BC Police charge $50 for finger printing, If I go to Blaine, Washington, they charge $10 for the same service.
