Friends,

I had applied for permanent residence in Canada from Turkey. I have been living in USA and recently I got a letter from Canadian Embassy that says they need updated police certificates and FBI certificates. How can I get these certificates? Is there any relationship between them? Which one should be taken first? And How long does it take? I just have roughly 30 days.

It also says I need to update settlement funds. Are they meaning my bank accounts ect.?

Thank you for your help.

Regards.

You just go to the concerned offices and prove your identiy to issue the certificates. They are supposed to do all such tasks.

Sorry wrong information guys. When all else fails read the instructions:

For the FBI certificate:

How or where do I obtain one?

You should:

* get a cover letter and fingerprint card from the FBI. You can download these from the FBI website in the Related Links section at the bottom of the page or write to the address below and have them mailed to you.

* have fingerprints taken. You can have this done by:
o a local police department or
o a private fingerprinting business.

(When you have your fingerprints taken, you will need photo identification.)

* include a Certified cheque or money order for the fees, payable to the U.S. Treasury
* mail the letter, fingerprints and fee payment to:

FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services Division
Attention: SCU, Mod D-2
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, West Virginia 26306
U.S.A.

Processing times are normally between 16 and 18 weeks.

Local Requests
Applicants should apply for a police certificate from the General Prosecutor's Office, with branches located in each city. Applicants will need to present their birth certificate or passport (foreign residents).

When you send your fingerprints and form into the FBI, be sure to write "please expedite" on the form and on the outside of the mailing envelope. Also, give a date - about 3 weeks from the date of mailing - that you need the police check processed by. The FBI will attempt to meet your due date.

If you don't do this, your police check will take up to 4 months to process.

Maybe you'll get lucky. I've heard some people getting them back in just a few weeks even though they didn't ask for expedition.

Good luck!

I received a letter from Govt of Canada that our application been sent from Buffalo to New York to expedite the processing of my application. Is it too soon to send finger printing cards to FBI, states and other countries for police clearance now?
