Hi,

I came to Canada as international student when I was 17, and went back to my home country every summer to visit home. Do I need a police certificate from home country as well even thought I was in Canada since I was 17? (please note that the each time I went back is less than 6 months, but in total are more than 6 months)

This is false. No PCC is required for Canada.

Are you 100% sure about this? OP has said s/he has lived in Canada primarily since s/he was 17. The AoR I received, which I assume is standard says police certificate is required for:

1) The country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more;
and
2) The country where you have spent most of your adult life since the age of 18.

which I don't think his/her country of origin qualifies as either. The exception would be if the AoR specifically request PCC for the country of origin.

"In your online account, the system generated text in the blue box where you upload your documents may advise you that you need to submit a police certificate for any country, region or territory where you lived for 6 months or more since you turned 18. Please disregard that text and follow the instructions in this letter instead. We’ll contact you if we need additional police certificates to process your application."
