Hello Members,

I have a few query regarding Police certificate.

I am now in the process of collecting all the documents, like getting ECA and employment certificate etc. Finished IELTS already.

I am from India, but living in Japan for almost 2 years.

My queries are

1. Do I need police certificate for both the countries ? I guess yes

2. Since I live in Japan, Should I get the police certificate from Japan after I get the ITA (is it possible to get the certificate before ITA?). I hope I will manage it.

3. But what about India? Is it a tedious and long process to get it from Indian embassy? How long does it take generally ?

4. Currently I am in India for vacation? So instead of getting the certificate from Indian embassy in Tokyo, Should I get the certificate now from my local police station in India ?
4. If yes, is there any specific format for the police certificate. What need to be mentioned in the police certificate ??

It will be really great if any one can help me with these queries. Hope it will be useful for others also.

~TIA.

YES

PCC is needed immediately after you receive ITA, based on your score you might get an estimated date of ITA and you should check for the processing time to decide when to apply for PCC.

3. But what about India? Is it a tedious and long process to get it from Indian embassy? How long does it take generally ?
Its not, it may take anytime between 5 to 30 days. (If you're applying at PSK from the same city, your passport was issued at, it should be quick.

4. Currently I am in India for vacation? So instead of getting the certificate from Indian embassy in Tokyo, Should I get the certificate now from my local police station in India ?
You can decide, based on how long you'll be available in India. Also consider, below excerpt from CIC website:
If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:

are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

4. If yes, is there any specific format for the police certificate. What need to be mentioned in the police certificate ??
This will be taken care of by the department/govt. officials.

It will be really great if any one can help me with these queries. Hope it will be useful for others also.

Hello moderator, thank you for your quick response. Sorry that I took some time to reply.
However I have an update. I applied in the local police station and got the PCC in 5 days.
Now waiting for the WES evaluation.

I am an Indian living in London. I got the PCC in 2 weeks. I went to VFS, submitted my passport and proof of address in the UK and paid £27. I took my own prepaid envelope which was cheaper than theirs. They stamped my passport, gave a PCC letter and got it. It was that easy. I've heard it's very complicated in India.

Its not very complicated. I just had to visit the SB office twice. It was much cheaper though, cost me only 300 INR or £4. Besides now you can apply for PCC from the govt. passport website also. The process is much simpler. You can apply online and I guess they will call you and then you have to visit the SB office with the required documents. i wanted it faster, so didnt apply through it.

" You must provide a police certificate for every country, region or territory, other than Canada, in which you have spent 6 months or more. A police certificate is a copy of your criminal record, or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record.

Example: If you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

Police certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police clearance certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to determine a person’s admissibility to enter Canada.

Certain countries will not issue a police certificate, or provide the certificate directly to you. If this applies to you please provide a letter of explanation in lieu of a police certificate.

You will be advised if you are required to obtain a police certificate for Canada.

Police certificates need to be a scan of the original police certificate(s) in color. Certified true copies, unauthorized copies, or visibly altered police certificates are unacceptable and will result in the application being rejected as incomplete.

Once you have applied for a Police Certificate from a country, it is beneficial to upload evidence that you have applied in order to ensure that your application is not rejected as incomplete (examples of proof might include payment receipts, tracking numbers, etc.) "

Hello every one,

I'm a Nigerian and i've lived there since birth. About 9 months i got a job transfer from Nigeria to Kenya and have been living there ever since. I got an ITA recently and police certificate from Nigeria 3 days ago. The certificate will expire in April, 2017 but I have to make an emergency business trip to Nigeria in 4 days time for about a week. Do i need another Police certificate from Nigeria when i gets back to Kenya from business trip/visit?

You need to submit Police certificate both from Kenya and Nigeria.
