Hello forum,

so here's the thing: I have a diploma from a vocational school and after that I got a bachelor's degree in the same field.

I had my bachelor's degree assessed by the UofT and stated so in the express entry profile.

For the vocational school, I indicated that I did not have an ECA in EE - which I thought would not be an issue because the info text on the profile said and still says that I "might need to have my highest diploma/degree assessed".

Shortly after submitting my profile, I received an ITA (yay) and started to gather all the necessary documents.

Only now have I realized that I received extra points for...

"Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees. One must be for a program of three or more years"

...and for...

"With good official language proficiency (Canadian Language Benchmark Level [CLB] 7 or higher) and a post-secondary degree"
...in combination with...
"Two or more post-secondary program credentials AND at least one of these credentials was issued on completion of a post-secondary program of three years or longer"

I also stumbled across several forum posts that said that I need to have every credential for which I claimed points assessed.

Without the vocational school I would most likely drop below the points threshold.

I have a bit more than 30 days left to submit the application and there is no way I can get the diploma assessed in time.

I do not understand why CIC awarded me points for a diploma about which I clearly stated that I did not have an ECA for. They should know that 60 days are not enough to have it assessed.

I also find it quite misleading that the info text on EE says that "I might need to have my highest diploma/degree assessed".

Does anyone here have any experience with this? Is it true that I only need to have an ECA for the bachelor's degree? Can I add a letter of explanation pointing out the misleading info text and the invitation without having an ECA and offer to have the diploma assessed if they want me to?

You shall apply with a letter of explanation, in case they declare you not eligible your 100% fee will be returned and than you can try again. You may also attach screenshot of that page which states that you have selected you do not have ECA for your vocational cert.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice, that's what I will do. I really hope they are going to accept me as my almost perfect score IELTS expires in October and I'm not sure if I can get that again. :/ Are they quick in declining applications?

yes they will decline, do not make a mistake by sending expired ielts certificate, reattempt ielts and try to gain 8 in listening and 7 in all 3 modules.

FYI, my application has been refused today because of the missing ECA.

I have sent them a letter asking to re-open it so I can obtain and then submit the ECA.

At the same time I made an appointment with an immigration lawyer to discuss my chances of an appeal.

Thanks, but the IELTS was never a problem for me. I just said that it will expire in October 2016 so I likely need to retake it in case I apply again.
