CIC considers Correspondence courses also, provided you had 15 hours per week of studies and you can prove it.

IN this case VO can apply descrition based on local knowledge and grant points accordingly.

Dear Ankit

Thanks for your reply.

But you know in India most of correspondence courses do not require weekly hours of study .But only it is 2 years course ( like time span for regular course ) the candidiate do not need to attend any classes but had to take final examination after every six month.

So that is case with me , I have done M.Com from Himachal Pradesh University , Shimla ( India ) . They had provided me 2 years degree with all my detial marks for 4 semesters.

So my question is that wheather I can achieve education points on this .

Look forward to some answer on this

Vicky it will depend on Visa officer now. He will grant you points based on his local knowelege of Indian System.
You may look at it like if you have to pass the exam you needed minimum 15 hours of study in a week. VO may depend on your official transcript for information on how many points he should give.

I think you may open a thread with title Correspondence education points and ask if any one successfully got points for corrospondence courses

(Pursuant to R77 A distance learning credential is eligible for points as long as it meets the definition of a credential
as outlined in R73. If the credential is not described in terms of number of years duration (i.e.,
three-year bachelor's degree), officers should apply the definition of full-time equivalent study and
knowledge that the visa office has acquired on local education institutions and credentials.
There is a high incidence of fraud in this area. Verification checks should be conducted with
issuing institutions to ensure that program integrity standards are respected.
Pursuant to R78, officers should assess the application and award the applicant up to a maximum
of 25 points for education.)

In short, any one can get points for distance education but they required to prove 15 hours/week study at college/ university/ study center/ online/ home etc....

Many fraud cases are there who claim 15 hours/week study but actually they have not studied that much time. Local visa office will directly contact study center and university by phone, website etc.

Educational credential is defined in section 73 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations as any diploma, degree or trade or apprenticeship credential issued on the completion of a program of study or training at an educational or training institution recognized by the authorities responsible for registering, accrediting, supervising and regulating such institutions in the country of issue.

A distance learning credential is eligible for points as long as it meets the definition of a credential as outlined in section 73 of the regulations.

Full-time is defined in section 78(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations as requiring at least 15 hours of instruction per week during the academic year, including any period of training in the workplace that forms part of the course of instruction.

Full-time equivalent means, in respect of part-time or accelerated studies, the period of time that would have been required to complete those studies on a full-time basis.

Pursuant to section 78 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, officers should assess the application and award the applicant points for education as follows:

One year post-secondary educational credential, other than a university educational credential, and at least 13 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
15 Points

One year university educational credential at the bachelor’s level, and at least 13 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
15 Points

Two year post-secondary educational credential, other than a university educational credential, and at least 14 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
20 Points

A university educational credential of two years or more at the bachelor’s level, and at least 14 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
20 Points

Three year post-secondary educational credential, other than a university educational credential, and at least 15 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
22 Points

Two or more university educational credentials at the bachelor’s level and at least 15 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies
22 Points

If your two diplomas are to be considered separately, the maximum you could get is 15 points for a post secondary credential obtained after 13 years of education.

If both your diplomas are university credentials, they can be combined and you should be able to obtain 22 points providing that they are recognized by your home country and that you completed at least 15 years of full time studies or the equivalent.

So its not sure if the visa officer will be satisfied with your distanced education credentials to award you all points.
