CIC are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Which is to say, that they are useless.

I've spoken to two different people in the call centre, and have got no definitive answers on anything. One person gave me some blatantly incorrect info about implied status (I'm currently in Canada with an IEC permit, which categorically DOES NOT offer implied status. He said it would. *rolls eyes*)

I've applied for the BOWP - although it's taking them 126 days to process right now (and getting longer), and my current WP expires in 70 days. I'll also be applying for an LMIA exempt closed work permit, through my employer. They're willing to pay the $230 fee to keep me. It does mean I can't freelance elsewhere, and also may mean I have to stop doing volunteering. Not what I want.

The LMIA exempt permit can be issued at the border, so I'm hoping to get that within the next few weeks. Then I'm hoping (and I have no idea if this will work or not) that four months down the line, when my BOWP gets processed, that that'll supersede the permit that ties me to one employer. But, when they look at the BOWP application, they may say "oh, he's just got a new permit for a year... denied."

So... I'll just have to sit tight, and wait and see what happens.

Incidentally, the useless chap at CIC also told me that I was ineligible for the BOWP with my newly received AOR, saying instead that my application needs to be 'passed' by the processing centre in Sydney. This, despite what CIC post publicly on their website.

To say that I've had a stressful and frustrating day has been understatement...

Validity of a work permit (in case of close - same employer) depends on the employment duration mentioned on the offer of employment form by an employer.

So, I think you can get an employment offer filled out as 4 or less months employment duration and become eligible for open work permit.

But, I suggest you to go to the nearest border first and try if you can get an open work permit over there. I heard some people got OWP at border/port of entry. You are lucky too then you will get one as well because all depends upon your luck and CIC officer you will deal with.

Just in case they refuse to issue you an OWP then you can just confirm with them about my above statement that work permit duration = employment duration on offer letter because I read about this on CIC website but could not find the link now.

Good luck :)

for your inquiry about the medical

I have my wife and two kids, when they send me the EP and my UCI they didn't mention any of my dependents

but when I got the MR I received 4 emails, each for one of my family members

each email has its attachment which consists of 2 pages as Victor mentioned the first page is the same for all of us while the second page holds every one's own data (Name, Date of birth, UCI, IME , and 2 vacant sections that will be filled by the doctor and u r requested to print those 2 pages and take them along with the passport and photos to the doctor

we all have same EP but different UCI however their UCIs are in serial

hope u got it clear :)

Good luck buddy :D

UCI does not change if we have issued already for any other visas. I received the previously issued UCI hence i think it will be the same for my guys too.

sometimes i feel that the call centre agents have the same level of information as what we have about all these process..

The job I have is permanent though - they've offered it to me based on the fact they assume I will get a new permit, and eventually PR. Hopefully that'll be understood at the border. I should be able to get a one year closed permit. MPNP have already sent me a letter of support - and now I'm waiting for work to pay the fee and submit the form - which will hopefully be next week.

If you are happy with closed work permit then you can mention permanent on the job offer and CIC officer will issue for atleast 2 years or more depending on how long you have worked in Canada in the last four years.

One of friend just got 2 years WP bcz his employer put permanent on the job offer.

At border, ask them about OWP first if they say no - then apply for closed one.

Let me know after you get your work permit :)

Good luck :)

As far I know, you can not change/update your work permit application after you apply unless an officer asks for additional documents to send/upload.

In your case, you can't change it to open at this time because your work permit is expired and you are under implied status. You need to have a valid work permit (expiring within 4 months) along with AOR in order to apply for an open work permit. Check out the link below.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/permit/extend/permanent.asp

Also, the way we fill out form IMM5710 - Application to Change Conditions and WP application fees is different for both open and close work permit applications.

Sorry to say but I think, it is not possible at this time.

It would have been possible if you would have send an open work permit application along with your PR one or before your work permit expired as I realized it now too.

CIC is taking more time to issue work permits than AORs.

what time period of employment did your employer mention on "Offer of employment" form though?

Thanks pretty_girl. I think I’ll just wait for the closed work permit approval. Since expiry of my wp was June 19, duration I’d mentioned was June 20, 2015 to Sept 02, 2016. Though Im a permanent full time employee but have contract with the company Im working for - which automatically renews each yr.

My application was delivered on June 04. They're still working on applications recvd in april. When is your wp expiring?
