Pari-- I ma not sure which province you live in ? how far are your form USA border?

if you are a PNP, you can flag poll and get your WP renewed. just go to US border with your PP, tell them u r flag polling they will issue you a slip..walk back to Canada border office and say u just did flag polling and you can get WP n less than one hour

Docs u need is : Photocopy and original PNP certificate
Med / AOR from CIC (Copy of Emails. keep 2)
request for RPRF
and the photo copy of all other docs, like salary slips, Epost..work confirmation letter from your employer, they may call your employer just to confirm that you are still working there..

I have done it couple of times, its just one hour process..

dont tell them that you have already applied for WP..take your fees..may be a credit card..and be ready to pay fees for OWP

You should wait for your new work permit. There is nothing wrong with being in implied status...

you will get the money back once you get renewed WP, it will take them around 6 weeks to send you the fees back.

I am not sure how Canada border office will react after seeing the receipt.

If I am you, I will just pay fresh fees and wait for a refund.

I glanced through the article. Though it was old, it was quite informative. Thanks coshx for that. By reading the article, it appears to me that security check presently should not take more than a month or so. But the scary part is about those less than 1% that takes more than 12 months!!!!!!!!

It's June and I have not received any update form CIC :'(
Their last update was about asking for additional documents in December 2012 and nothing else.

There is no change on my online application status since December:

We received your application for permanent residence on February 24, 2012.
We started processing your application on December 10, 2012.
Medical results have been received.

One month ago, I sent an email for asking them to check if they have received the requested documents. Here is the answer:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your message concerning your application for permanent residence.
Your file has been transferred to this office in Ottawa for processing. It will be reviewed by one of our officers, with priority given to applications that were received at CIC before 1 September 2011.

Our office has received the following documents:
-...
-...
-...

Medical results: Please note that we will be requesting an extension of the validity of these results, to minimize the number of applicants who will be required to undertake new medical examinations.

Case status:
An officer will be in contact with you in due course. In the meantime, we would ask for your patience and for you not to send follow-up requests for status to our office, unless you fall into one of the categories listed below.
... (and a time table which shows I had to receive an update by end of May!

I have sent them another email yesterday and mentioned their time table and asked to check my status. No answer yet!

I also sent CIC a couple of emails to inquire about my application processing time/status last week. I haven't got any replies back from CIC yet. Now, I am waiting for my GCM notes to see what's going no with my application.

One think i've noticed about CIC is that they get lots of emails everyday and the computer sorts them by keywords. They may also not update what you sent to them as they receive lots of files from email. So when communicating with them, tell them what day (including the time if you know it) you sent them the email. All the officer then do is to check your name on that date and your information will pop up.
