Hello Everyone, i heard some package return happened due to the representative form. I am so worried about now. Our situation is following:

My husband is Canadian citizen, and we both live in US now, we have the same residential address in US, but we are going to travel to other countries for 3 months and plan to move to a new US address after back, so we did not put our current US residential address as mailing address.

He put his aunt's Canada address in the form, instead, and fill the form " Authority to Release Personal Information to a Designated Individual (IMM 5475)". He told me since we have lived together , we do not need to use any representative form even we are not using our US residential address, but i am still not sure about that. Under our case, should we just Representative form or not????Could anyone answer this for me please??? Thank you so much

Let me preface what I say with this: I don't know the answer but I have an opinion ;) Maybe another person here can say definitively.

Since both the sponsor and applicant needs to provide a history of where you have lived, providing an address that is is neither your current mailing address nor possibly an address you've ever lived at will raise issues, I think. Personally, I'd play it safe. You could easily make his aunt your "representative" in the short term; it can be revoked at any time.

I would err on the side of caution though. Importantly, if CIC needs to return your application for any reason and they send it to what's listed as the sponsor's or applicant's address, and you're not living there, then that would be a whole other can of worms. With a rep, at least you know the above scenario would have the app sent back to an address you trust.
