Hello all,

I have submitted my application to sponsor my wife, it was received to them on April 17, 2013 and has been sent to the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi. They sent us an email on June 3, 2013 requesting for my wife's passport and landing fee receipt. She sent both and couriered it and they received on June 7, 2013 now here are few questions I have......

1. How long does it after they request passport and landing fee receipt? Does the strike effect my wife's application also??

2. When I check online status, first I tried with UCI number and my birth date and it says decision made. "We sent you a letter on May 14th, 2013 about the decision on your application" I did receive this letter and it basically said I was approved as sponsor and the application will now go abroad to the Delhi office.

3. When I check online with Application Number and my wife's birth date, it only says Application Received.

Why does UCI say Decision Made and with Application Number says Application received???

Does this strike effect my application also cause I have heard usually when passport is requested with landing fee receipt it usually takes 5-6 weeks for visa.

I know i should be happy that my application has gone so smooth and fast compared to others, but now this is the worst part cause passport has been sent and no way of knowing what is going on so that's why I posted here.

Any information would be great appreciated. Thanks

you will be better off joining New Delhi 2013 applicants thread and have a look at the timeline of others to get a rough idea. NDVO does tend to ask for PPR early in the process and there are some applicants who had to wait for 8-10 months to get a visa.

Decision was made about you being approved as sponsor.

Application received is the case for your wife, the applicant. That is the reason you see this.

Remember sponsor approval usually now is within 1 month. Application for your wife's permanent residence application is the next step - nothing has been done on that except they asked your wife to send in her passport.

Unlike other visa office, NDVO asks for passport at the beginning of the process. Other visa office usually asks the passport at the end of the process.

And unlike some visa offices where the whole process may take 24 months, your's will be done in less then a year.

Thank you both for responding to me.....

I find it bit strange because my friend sent his application on February 2013 and he never got any response about even request for visa. That's why we both found it strange that I applied in April and passport was requested and nothing for him since he applied. His application is also in Delhi

There's a good chance he missed the email or letter. He may want to email NDVO to make sure he hasn't missed the request, because if you don't respond, they cancel your application.

Users from January 2013 in NDVO haven't gotten their visas yet.

So i talked to my lawyer and he said usually they ask for passport at final stage of application. He has done many of these marriage sponsorship and has said each time passport was requested at final stages of process. Here on this forum Im being told the Delhi office asks at beginning of the process. Im confused now and don't know what to believe

Can anybody reading this give any input please??

NDVO asks for passport at the beginning. It is the only VO (that I'm aware of) that does this. The rest ask for the passport at the end.

Unless you're the first case your lawyer has had through NDVO, he should know this.

Is this a new thing with them asking for passport at beginning of process?? when my cousin applied after his wife they requested his wife's passport and gave back in 6 weeks with visa. That was in 2003 though i know it is old file Im comparing too

Not entirely new, but I guess it is if it was different in 2003.

Hello dhami_u

I had also sponsored my wife. Dates are nearby as you mentioned in your thread. She also sent her passport a month ago. I am also confused because of the timeline they have on there website for New Delhi is 10 months. Some people are telling me that there are 3 months duration after visa offices receives a passport for issuing a visa. Is that so?

1) Are they treating each case differently?
2) What else is pending to check for an application?

PAFSO strike has no updates. They are still on strike. Worried about these weird things.

The strike has nothing to do with your applications.

Hi Parker,

Why do you think spousal application has no affect from Strike?

Because I've read it all over this forum where poor amikety and PMM are trying to educate everyone in saying that the embassies are striking, NOT the visa offices.

PMM said:
Hi

To repeat, PAFSOs don't work for CIC. They are employees of the Department of Foreign Affairs. They don't report to the Minister of Immigration.

If that was really the case then why would CIC post this?

"“The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas. Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages,” says a post dated July 3 on the CIC Web site."
