Hey everyone,

I live outside of Canada- my spouse and I live and work outside of Canada. I just got my PR VISA and we are planning to visit Canada around thanksgiving. We are going to Ottawa, flying through Toronto. My plan is to do the landing and have my PR Card FEDEX to me...because we want to then apply for a SIN and stuff like that so I can join my partners bank information when we return to spend Christmas in Ottawa and we will move in the early part of 2010. Here are my questions:

1) My landing will take place in Toronto? IS this a problem that I will be visiting Ottawa...how does the customs take place as far as what I'm bringing with my to Canada...would it be when I move there on that day?

2)On my application I wrote Vancouver as the area I will be living in- does this trip to Ottawa cause any problems?

3)This landing and leaving the country- will this possess any challenges?

Thanks

To my understanding your PR card will be sent to the address you give them when you land, a Canada address. Will there be someone in Canada that would be able to send it to you? I'm pretty sure it doesnt matter where in Canada you 'land.' As far as your stuff your bringing with you I assume it will all be taking care of that day because you take the forms of goods being brought with you and goods to follow as well. Are you bringing everything with you at one time or are any shipping/moving companies helping you at all? I believe you have to do something extra if a company is doing it for you as far as when they get to the border. On my COPR papers that I just recieved it says that leaving Canada before getting my PR card is not advised, but if for some reason I need to, I should apply for a travel document to be able to re-enter.

I'm no expert, but I can't possibly see why it would matter to customs and immigrations if you take a trip to Ottawa after you've landed and gone through immigration?? And I don't really think they care where you do your landing versus where you wrote on the paper that you'd be living. You have a PR visa for Canada, not just for Vancouver.

PR card must be sent to a Canadian address and they will send it regular mail. You can then have a friend Fedex it to you.

1. No but look up the Goods to Follow form on the CBSA website.
2. No
3. No
