Hello everyone!

I would appreciate your feedback regarding my situation.

I'm a holder of PGWP which expires July 2014. I'm currently working in a retail store as an Asst. Manager/Management Trainee. My schedule varies between 24-40 depending on store needs.

1. I have been working since April 2013 and would like to apply for PR under CEC. How many cumulative hours is required for me to be able to apply for CEC?

2. What is considered a full time job (30 hours or 37.5)?

you need to work atleast 30 hours per week in order for that week to be counted as full time...

The weeks you worked less than 30 hrs, simply add up the hours and divide by 30. you will get the equivalent full time weeks... and you need 52 of those full time weeks

the weeks with more than 30 hrs are counted as full time weeks.. you cannot count the extra hours to compensate for the time..

for eg.
if you work 30 hrs in a week, it will be counted as 1 week
if you work 50 hrs in a week, it will still be counted as 1 week
if you work 20 hrs in a week, it will be counted as a part time week and you need to count another 10 hrs from your part time week hours

you cannot count extra hours from any full time week

Note: Full time is defined as minimum 30 hrs/week

I'm kinda confused. But to clarify, for example, I work 25 hours this week and some weeks I work 40 hours, does it matter as long as I accumulate 1,560 hours in one year and 3 months?

Yes it does. Refer to earlier post. Only weeks with more than 30h are counted as one week of full time work. All weeks with less than 30h will be counted partially as H/30 for the 1 year count.

you are fortunate that you are learning early in the process to keep track of your weekly hours, because it matters.

Damn true. especially for the non-fixed hours job type.
You still have a year and a month to accumulate your work hours though...

Guys, all of you are wrong. ;) In Canada, usually, full time job is 35-40 hours a week. For CEC they say 30 hours per week is the lowest threshold. Only if it happened to be more than 40 THEN it is overtime, do not count it, count only 40 for that week.

It also does not matter what week it is 25 or 35 hours. In OP 25 they say
“full -time work” means at least 30 hours
. So you just have to have 12 months since your first day of work under PGWP and at least 30*52 = 1560 hours per those 12 months. Do not count anything over 40 hours a week (it is an OVERTIME) but count 25 and 35 and 40 hrs per week, if in your contract or in the letter from employer it is called FULL time job. That means that your week could be 25 and 45 hours (count 25 and 40 but do not count 5 over 40). If your full time job is something around 40 hours per week , then it should be around 2080 hours. So, something between 1560 and 2080 hrs for a period of 12 months will do.

Not all positions are paid by an hour. Sometimes it is just $40 000 a year. And no time sheets. So, nobody records your hours. It is just " FULL TIME position", could be 1560 hrs a year , could be 2080, and everything in between, depending on your contract. Even if in such a situation you count your hours by yourself this counting is not reliable because there is nobody in the company to confirm or contradict it. It is just written "a full time job" in your contract or in the letter from your employer.

Also they say
Work experience must be acquired over a period of at least one year; work in excess of 30 hours per week over a shorter period cannot compensate for any shorter overall period of experience
Than means that if you work 40 hours a week for 39 weeks (so you worked 40hrsx 39 weeks=1560 hrs - it is NOT enough, because you ALSO have to work 12 months BEFORE applying for CEC.

Believe me, I have been a bookkeeper in Canada for 8 years. :) I know what I am talking about
does it matter as long as I accumulate 1,560 hours in one year and 3 months?
It does not matter as long as you got 1560 hrs per 12 months. It is the minimum for 12 months of work for CEC.
If you worked 1560 hrs during 15 month, or 65 weeks, then your average week was only 24 hours. Not good. :(

You are misreading the operations manual and trying to average the hours out. Based on your post, someone with part-time experience over 3 years would never qualify, which is flat out wrong and contrary to the advertised eligibility of the CEC class.

At no point would any hours over 30 in a week actually factor into the calculation. Once you reach 30 hours, then it is considered a full week. For the weeks under 30, then you cumulatively sum them up and divide by 30. You cannot "borrow" from the weeks over 30. The target is 52 full time equivalent weeks over the last 3 years before applying.

The calculation provided in the other posts is more accurate, which is done on a week by week basis.

Agree with seton.

What you are saying is wrong and you should be careful of how you advise people!
