Please help: New CEC work experience requirement and IEC

Hi guys,

due to refusal of LMO I had to go back home. I plan to apply for IEC 2013 under Young Professionals (I have a job offer), and after 12 months apply for CEC.

But, I am confused with this quote:

"The Canadian work experience requirement would be reduced from 24 months to 12 in the preceding 36 months, to allow faster transition for those who have already proven their employability in Canada's labour market. Accumulating 12 months of authorized work within the preceding 36 is more flexible for applicants working in Canada under international agreements (e.g. International Experience Canada). Only applicants with NOC 0, A or B work experience would continue to qualify for the CEC."

It is clearly stated that they intend to reduce the requirement so IEC participants could apply.

My question is - If I get a work permit valid for 1 year, it is impossible that I start working on the very same day of landing, so I will lack a few days to complete 12 months.

What are your thoughts?

Regardless of when you start, at present you MUST complete 1950 hours of full time work for each of the 2 years you work. I can only assume that the same number of hours will be required when they change this to a 1 year prerequisite when the new CEC application is rolled out.

I understand that. They will change hours to 1560, because they will change hours from 37.5 to 30.

But that doesn't matter. I will work 40 h/w, and with that will reach 1560 for approx 10 months (or 1950 hrs in 48.75 weeks instead of 52).

The problem is, even if you work 12 hours per day, you can't apply unless you have worked a minimum of 2 years (or 1 year by new rules).

So I don't see how can I reach 1 full year, no matter of hours. I need at least 3, 4 days to find the accommodation etc. I will have 11 months and 3 weeks for example, and that is not 12.

Any ideas anyone?

Please provide a source of this because it makes zero sense. if you only work 30 hours/week, it cannot be counted as full-time. I've never heard of working 6 hours a day from M-F being counted as full-time.

hmm what you can do is do a great job so they could re-new your work permit next year, and provide a source where it says it's gonna be 1560 pls.

Be free to search for "30 hours".

The definition of “full-time work” will be amended to reflect a change in usual duration that is consistent with the definition used by HRSDC and Statistics Canada, equalling 30 hours per week, or the equivalent in continuous part-time work.

“full-time work” means at least 30 hours of work over a period of one week.

Please read my question again. Hours doesn't matter. My question is not how to gain hours. With 40 hours per week I will have 2080 hours (or close to it if we deduct a few days), so definitely I will have more then 1560 or 1950. My question is how can I gain full 12 months of employment.

If you qualify - you can apply for a second working holiday visa.

If you don't qualify for a second working holiday visa, then you will have to find an employer who is willing to hire you and obtain an approved LMO (labour market opinion). You will then apply for a closed work permit.

Hi scylla, thanks for the reply. Yes, that would be one option. However, according to my first post and bold words, my conclusion is that their intent is to make it easier for IEC applicants to apply. But it is kinda contradictory because you can't make full 365 days within 1 year IEC work permit, cause you need at least 3-4 days to settle after you land. I am still confused with that

Roger, I just asked johnny123 if he was Irish and there was no confirmation. What you posted only applies to Irish citizens (just so there is no confusion to anyone else reading this thread).
