Hello everybody

I became a PR in March, 2010 and my PR card will expire in March, 2015. But till now, I have lived in Canada for just 3 months and can not meet residential obligation when my card expires.

From the forum I know that I can stay in Canada with an expired card and apply to renew it after I live for 730 days.

I know I have to stay in Canada for the next one year and 9 months without leaving Canada. But my wife is not a PR, she is in China now. I just want her to come to be here with me. I do not care what kind of VISA she holds.

So please advise how she can come to Canada.

Some people suggest that I should sponsor her and apply her as a PR. But I know, in this situation, the immigration officials will examine me and discover I do not fulfill the residential obligation and may send me a removal order.

Others suggest that she should apply Temporary Resident Visa. So she can come to Canada and accompany me soon. She will apply to become a PR after I renew my PR card safely. But I do not know whether immigration officials will examine me and discover I do not fulfill the residential obligation.

I do not know which method is appropriate. Please give some suggestions.

Many many thanks in advance.

Sam

OK, the only alternatives, until you meet the residency obligation, are a visitor visa, a temporary foreign worker visa, a study visa, or she finds out if she is eligible for PR by a non-sponsorship route.

You can't sponsor her right now since you don't meet the residency obligation. So the only options are to try to bring her to Canada on either a TRV, work permit or study permit. For all three she will have to demonstrate that she has strong ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. This may be difficult for her to prove since she has a Canadian husband. So to keep your PR status, there is a chance you may have to return to Canada alone and be separated from your wife for a period of time.
