I've been accepted to the University of Saskatchewan. Classes start September 3rd. Move-in day for the dorms is September 1st. I leave for Canada on May 1st. This is because I will be staying with my host family during breaks when I'm not visiting my family in the United States. I have no family in Canada. Anyways, I wanted to get some valid Canadian work experience before school starts and to help get myself integrated into the metric system and celsius. I visited family friends (my host family) last year for three months and came back. Oh and I also want to use those three months, in addition to getting work experience and getting integrated into the metric system, I want to visit my University and ensure all of my paperwork for my dorms is correct. Along with exploring the city where I'll be living for the next four years.

I will be applying at the port of entry at Calgary International Airport on May 1st. I know I will need to bring with me:
- a completely filled out application for them to process
- my passport + birth certificate + state ID card
- my proof of acceptance into the University
- my proof of funding (loans + 2,000 in bank account)
- my proof of dorm room + a letter outlining that my host family will allow me to stay with them during break periods of school, given that I can't afford to fly home every year
- bank statements
- proof of family/coming back to the US - (I'm going to give them a copy of my mom and my sister's birth certificates and show pictures of my family and will have a tattoo saying "sisters" on my ankle if that will help to show) I'm considering buying a plane ticket for August (before school starts and visiting a friend in a different state)
- two passport sized photos with full name and date of birth on the back of each

BUT ... Will I need Police Clearance? :/ I'm REALLY worried! Because I'm leaving before it will even get to me if I need it. (13-16 weeks wait)
And will I need a medical examination? I've got my immunization records. But I suppose it has to be their specific doctors...

PLEASE HELP!

This means everything to me. Getting an education. I really want to learn. To get a job. To study in Canada and bring that back home with me.

Can anyone shed some light for me? CIC is pretty awful with their information. OH!
And do I absolutely need $10,000 CAD as a minimum to get into Canada? Granted I'm staying with a host family/family friends and will live in a dorm and that is only about $6000 CAD?

I feel so scared and so lost. I really need to know everything I can. I don't want to be at the port of entry and be denied... :(

Thank you.

Thank you.

1. You absolutely need CAD 10,000.
2. You are not allowed to work before actual registration in school and class start date.
3. Tattoo won't help you in anyway.

Okay thank you.

I already bought my plane ticket for May 1st and am starting school September 3rd. And moving in September 1st in the dorms. What should I consider the 3 months then? :/ I thought I could work once I get my study permit at per the 2014 rule stating that international students can work full time during the summer. Technically I am a student. I'm in their system. What should I say to satisfy immigration officers that it's basically a vacation in Canada before school starts?

Also... Can my $10,000 plus tuition be all in student loans? For example, let's say that tuition and fees are $15,000 and then I can use $7000 for dorm room and $2,450 USD (approx.3,000CAD) in my bank account. Would that be fine? Given that I have $150 set aside for the processing fees and $25 for baggage fees.
