Planning to Migrate from INDIA to CANADA [Express Entry]

Hi All...

My name is Renjith. I am working as a Senior Software Engineer in one of the leading IT comapnies in India.
I have 6+ years of experience in Java/J2EE. Since my company is not ready to process my Canadian Visa,
I thought of doing it myself.

As a part of that, I booked IELTS exam on April 2nd. Once i cleared that, I believe it would be an easy task to get the PR.

Coming straight into my question, following are the things I am really worried of...

1. I dont want to take a risk by resigning my current job, come to canada and then search for a job. So is there any chance that canadian companies accept my application and conduct interview through Skype?

2. My wife, who is a govt employee is planning to come along with me. She want to Quit the govt job here and join one in canada(not necessarily govt job ). Is it advisable to do so?

3. What is the scope of Java/J2EE in Canada? Along with I have exposure to special technologies like Mule ESB.

Ilets is must have but it is not right to assume that PR journey is easy after that. Funds , WES, PCC ..many more

1. Canadian companies will not entertain you, if don't have valid visa (99%)
2. Ask her to quit the job once you will get passport stamped
3. In general, IT market is not so big. Will advise you to make your mind to do odd jobs before you get anything in java.

I dint understood this. Could you please elaborate?
What i heard was, we can post our profile in Job Bank and wait for coampanies to call us.

Agree.. Not even planning to bring her, untill i get a stable job.

Renjith, I would second everything JZPASSI said.
Most Canadian employers expect you to have a Canadian work permit or PR before you they grant interviews. Therefore its best to first get the PR and then work on finding a job. With regards to the Job bank, don't count on it. Its not very good and mostly odd jobs such as restaurant managers etc are posted there.
IELTS is only the first step on the road to PR, after that also lots of other steps are needed before one can apply. You could go through some of the threads on this forum. Hi Renjith,

I would like to highlight few steps in the PR process for you,

1. Get you highest education degree evaluated for Canadian Equivalency, WES(World Education System) is a good option for that, it would cost you around 17000INR, You will need to get Transcript from your college/University and need to send that sealed envelope to WES( Just google WES). Estimated time for this process: 1 Month.

2. You appear for IELTS, I guess you already booked your exam, you need to score at least 6 in each of the modules of General IELTS exam. The higher your scores, the higher your CRS will be. CRS(Comprehensive Ranking System) play Vital role in this process. Infact it is the deciding factor.

3. After that you will be able to create you Express Entry Profile if you meet the minimum criteria of the program.

4. Next Comes the ITA(Invitation to Apply) draws, The minimum cutoff in last 1 year, or say from start of this Express Entry system is CRS 451. If your CRS is higher than minimum cutoff, you will get the ITA and only then you can apply for PR.

If your scores are not high enough( I would say if your scores are less than 450), you can consider PNP( Provincial Nomination Program, you need to apply for provincial programs in Canada, SINP, OOPNP, PEI, Nova Scotia, Quebec few of the PNP helpful for outlanders) or Job Offer from canadian Employer(LMIA, its hard to get job offer from outside Canada, Job Bank is literally of no use in this regard at the moment)

5. After ITA you will need to submit Medicals for yourself and family(Spouse and Children only) accompanying you to Canada.

6. Get PCC for members in application including yourself.

7. Finally Submit you file and wait for communication from CIC.

When you have the PR/Visa, you can negotiate with your employer for Transfer to Canada.

Initially you will get the Work Permit/Visa, and you need to apply for PR card once you land in Canada.

I am into this process since Sept 2014, So it been around 1.5 years for me and Only thing I could manage in this time is, a PNP (OOPNP) and File Submission to CIC.

1) if someone knows about cut off points/score for provincial nomination.
2) I have double bachelors, do I have to get both of them assessed?
3) WES charging CAD 7 for their paper report via regular post and CAD 80 if opting for courier, is it genuine or any error on their website coz it can't be more than 10 times?

1) if someone knows about cut off points/score for provincial nomination. Each Province has its own criteria, as far as CRS is concerned only OOPNP(Ontario) used it as cut off. The Cut off is/was 400, and EE profile should not be older than 1st June 2015. All other provinces used their own criteria but not CRS.

2) I have double bachelors, do I have to get both of them assessed? Yes better get both evaluated provided both are regular(and one of them is at least 3 years program). It could earn you 8 points in CRS if you are single or 3 if you are married.
3) WES charging CAD 7 for their paper report via regular post and CAD 80 if opting for courier, is it genuine or any error on their website coz it can't be more than 10 times? As far as I know, its correct only, For COurier its would cost you 4-5 K extra, and would save 10-15 days.

i have question, as of your description i can figure out that you are well settled in India , as well as your wife is having a good job too.
so my question is that why do you want to leave well settled life and go to canada to start over again.
your answer will be helpful to me so many other to figure out stuff.

Honeyaustin, I totally agree with what you have mentioned. But to live abroad is a dream for us.
From our perspective, chasing and fulfilling that dream will give us satisfaction even though it may seem rubbish from someone else's perspective.

As I am working in private sector, I don't feel it as a risk. And on my wife's case, she will continue with her present job until we are in a safe position 'financially'.

Dont want to discourage you, but still want to ask this...Is this solely your decision to move abroad or the decision was taken jointly with ur our spouse?
And one advice to you, grass definitely seems to be greener on the otherside so act wisely

Yes, I agree.

It is our joint decision and life is all about taking risk .
I do not hesitate to give a try. If I fail, it will be a lesson to learn before I go for another.

The only risk that I am taking is with my wife's current job. As I mentioned earlier, I will try first, If succeed, I can ask her to join.
Thats what the plan is all about. Lets see what will happen.
