Hi All,

I FINALLY after weeks of calling around, found a photographer who can take pictures for our application. Just in time, too, because my partner's DMP appointment is next Tuesday, and I was starting to panic, as he only has one day off between now and then, and the appointment is first thing in the morning!

Before we go, I just want to be sure I'm counting correctly - we need 9 photos, yes?? 5 to bring to the DMP and 4 to include with the application package itself? (we're in the US, if that makes a difference for the photo count).

Are the photos for the PR visa/card included in this? or is that an additional 4 photos making it 13 needed altogether - i know we don't need to get them all now, I'm just unclear.

Do the photos need to be stamped on the back like Cdn passport photos do? I don't see that in the photo specification sheet, so I'm guessing not, but would love to hear whether others had it done or not.

Thanks in advance!

In the region specific paperwork it should tell you exactly how many photos you need. However, when I had my PPR, I had to send more, so if I was you, I would get more than you need, so that you don't have to worry about getting additional ones at a later date.

right - that's what I'm asking - if I missed anything in the guide. I have read it and what I have seen, i need 9 pictures. I am asking if this is what other people did.

if you needed to submit more later, how many more? 2? 5? 12?

do the photos need to be signed on the back, as for a CDN passport photo? because there is no mention of this either way in the guide or in the specification for the photographer, and I don't want to miss something important here.

They'd prefer no stamp on the back. On one (and one only) you have to write some information on the back. Check the guide for details. I've read here somewhere about someone having to send more pics later and they asked for them not to be stamped, but they usually don't complain if they are stamped.

Take the specifications to the photographer. They are not precisely the same as for passport photos. Also, we had to go get a 5th photo and take it back to the doctor. The receptionist originally told us he'd need only 4.

We didn't need one for the FBI. State police check requirements vary widely from state to state if you need those.

Oh no! I had mine all stamped!!

The photos must:
•measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown;
•have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 3/4”) finished size.

I sent UK Passport sized photos with my head being 29 mm in the photo!

BeShoo - Are medical photos and Application photos supposed to be the same size?

ok. 9 it is, for now. We can always go back and get more for any other requirements.

FBI did not require pictures, and I'm going to wait to start worrying about state-level police certificates until after we get the application submitted, as they only take 2 -3 weeks apiece, and we won't be able to submit the FBI certificate with our application unless we get it back in the next week or so. Since those will all be in the US, if they require photos, US passport-type photos should be ok (i'm guessing here) and those are available all over the place, no problem.

Thanks for the info- re: the back - we'll have the photographer leave them blank.

I really just wanted to be sure that the DMP didn't give us 4 pictures back (like how a dr or professional needs to sign the back of Cdn passport photos), which would then be the 4 to include in the app, if that makes any sense. I haven't found in the guide anywhere that it says the TOTAL number needed, just 5 for the DMP and 4 for the application, and maybe more later.

Anyways - thanks all for the clarification.

Lots of people have sent in stamped ones and got no complaints.

So far as I know they should all be the same size. I haven't seen anything to the contrary. The requirements for these photos are not nearly as picky as those for passport photos.

I remember that somewhere in the guide it says that they may ask for more photos later.

The doctor needs one for the form you send with your appication, one for the blood tests, one for the xrays, one for his records, etc. That's why so many.

My medical photos are the right size but my head is 31mm in the photo..I realized this after I did my medical as I had a bulk order done..so I took the remainder back and had my head size changed to 29mm for my application...

maybe we'll get 15 done, and just be done with it, then, since it took so long to find this guy.

That should seem like it would cover all possible bases...

Thanks!!

I asked the same question in this thread: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/total-photos-for-application-from-london-t44853.0.html;msg320613#msg320613 and the total was 18! That might be London specific of course but just thought I'd share.

:D

MikeUK.. well now I am glad I sent an extra 4 with my application..I sent them just in case! So I guess they will use them for the Visa : ) The 8 required is for the Western Europe Region..US are required to submit 4 initially..

Minna: I guess in this case you should submit 8 photos with your application! Saves sending more later!

yeah, we will probably send 8 with the application, and then keep a couple at home just in case. the photographer I spoke with was kind of shocked that we would need so many, but said it was no big deal - they just have to cut them down from standard US passport photos which are 2" x2". I'm sure he'll be relieved that he doesn't have to stamp so many.

But man, this whole application is getting expensive!! Between the $10 for the fingerprint card, $18 for the FBI, and $25 to overnight that package. Then the $1040 application fees, the $500 medical exam and now it's looking like $100 for all of these pictures, I just spent $35 getting photocopies of all of our cards and letters and it will likely cost a whole bunch to send out this application overnight.....that's a whole lot of money!!

Yikes! I hate to say that a lot of people have to end up getting a second medical exam if they're not able to "land" within one year of the first exam, but you paid a lot for that. We got ours done in Ottawa. It was $39.31 for blood work, $45 for an x-ray, and either $120 or $140 for the doctor. Looks like you paid about double that! It does add up.

My hubby originally was going to do his medical in the USA, and they said would cost $330. We then decided to try and see what it would cost here in the GTA (greater Toronto area). Found a DMP that only cost $150, so needless to say we cancelled that other appointment in the USA.
