Physical Presence Calculator Error: PR Date Rejected—Need Help!

Hi everyone,

I hope someone here can help me out.

On August 5, 2022, I received an email confirming that my application for permanent residence had been approved. The email instructed me to complete the process through the online portal.

In the portal, there was a question: "Are you currently inside Canada?" Since I was in Canada at the time, I answered "YES."

However, on August 10, 2022, just five days after receiving the approval email and submitting my PR request, I left Canada for a vacation. While I was outside Canada during this vacation, I received my PR confirmation (eCOPR), which officially made me a permanent resident.

Now, while completing a form, I'm being asked to provide the date I became a resident. I entered the date shown on my eCOPR (which matches the date on the back of my PR card (12th august 2022)).

Unfortunately, the form rejects this date, stating that it’s not valid because I was outside Canada when I officially became a resident.

I've attached a screenshot for reference. Has anyone experienced a similar issue or know how to resolve this?

Be in Canada on the day you got PR while updating your physical presence. Attach a letter of explanation with your application mentioning the same. Apply with buffer so that the additional day you getting won't matter.

Are you testing with the physical calculator website I think you should try directly from here: https://citapply-citdemande.apps.cic.gc.ca/en/sign-in Sometimes the other website cause problems. I personally do not know why is giving you that error.

What happen if you enter the day you became PR the day you returned from the trip? The reason I am saying to try that it is because even if you had no error the days you were away would not count anyways.

You should call IRCC or ask someone that knows better the system

Hi , you mean that i need to enter "12th auguest"(the day i got eCOPR ) as the day i returned to canada . even tho i returned on 20th august
and then write a letter that explains the issue
Where should i send the letter then ?

isn't it better if i just separate my dates and then re-enter them ?
Example :Instead of entering leave from : 10th august to 26 august , i instead do 2 entries : from 10th to 15 august and another one from 15th august to 26th august
at least this way there won't be miscalculation of days
and i'll also add a letter explaining why i separated the days

What do you think? also is it really necessary to add the letter ? and if yes , where exactly . thanks !

Even if i use the portal "https://citapply-citdemande.apps.cic.gc.ca/en/sign-in "

if i change the dates like you said , it will work . just afraid that they'll think it's misinformation and then misinterpret my intentions

Please let us know how your application goes.
I think more people are facing this (getting eCOPR while they are NOT in Canada).
This is tricky for both PR card renewal and citizenship application since the forms likely can't handle this situation.

You can attach letter of explanation with your application where you upload all the documents. You don't have to make the count right. There is issue with only one date 12th so just be in Canada on that day and keep everything as it happened in reality i.e. 13th to 20th again out of Canada. Will be easier for processing officer to understand what you did.
