Hey, guys!
Just need a confirmation.

For a sponsor.. does the Birth Certificate or Passport photocopy need to be notarized? It just says "photocopy" on the checklist. So certified or not???

For a sponsored spouse.. as well.. The checklist says a photocopy of a Passsport. In the beginning it clearly says "Send notarized photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise." The checklist doesn't really specify anything (just in case, it is the Eastern European checklist).

Can anybody help, please?
Thank you a lot! :)

As stated: Every document who's not in english or french must be translated and notarized.

Just so I am clear on this (sorry if I sound stupid) but if you have a photocopy of a passport/birth certificate, it must be notarized?? Or translated into English then notarized??

The sponsor does not need to notarize anything as long as it's in French or English. If the document is in another language it will have to be professionally translated and notarized.

they have said that to notarize if the documents are not in english \french and if so, then you have to get photocopies of translated documents and notarize them

Well.. my passport has both french and english info.. (e.g. name, dob, city, etc) I dont need to translate it, I am just not sure if I need to notarize the copy of it, so it is certified. :)

And my spouse (Canadian Citizen) has all the docs in english. I wouldn't want the sponsorship process to slow down because of that. We want to get it right in the very beginning.

I just know, whatever you need to be translated in english or french, needs to be also notarized. Usually you go to the translators' office. They offer you certified translations which have solemnization, stamp, signature of a notary. You just go and tell you need a notary certified translation attached to a copy of a document.

Hope this helped. ;)

My passport had the information in many languages, among those French and English. I didn't notarize it. I had other documents in my native language which I had translated and had the copies notarized.
