Hi guys, if someone has a PhD from outside canada (Greece) and is rightfully assessed as PhD by WES, What kind of jobs can he/she land in Canada? Can he teach at a university for instance? Thanks.

You could teach at a university, you'd have to still outcompete others for the job though: as anywhere else university positions are fairly competitive.

Thank you, so you are not considered less advantaged if your PhD was not awarded in Canada (it is in English though)

I think it depends on the area your PhD is in. If it's in natural sciences, a university position would require popular publications and proof of ability to secure external funding. Unless it is a teaching university, then some proof of teaching efficacy would be required, which is usually student evaluations.

You can also try community colleges. It all depends on your area of specialization and research.

PhD is in economics and no previous teaching experience. Thanks for the replies.

There is a massive amount of competition for teaching positions at universities (far more qualified applicants than positions). With no teaching experience, you should assume it will be very difficult to secure a teaching position at a university unless you have published extensively and your publications have been globally recognized as being significant / groundbreaking in your field.

I want to seconds scylla's observation. I myself teach at a university in Canada and if you don't have any teaching experience, nobody will hire you as a sessional lecturer (which usually is the official designation for a person teaching at university without holding a concurrent position as postdoc/professor/PhD student). There is plenty of applicants with a lot of teaching experience, since most PhD students teach during their studies and therefore have experience.

I am PhD too.

Sorry to tell you that but you can almost forget about a teaching position in Canada without experience.

A postdoctoral position in your field might be an possibility. That is what I am doing right now. It does not matter that your PhD is not awarded in Canada. PhD is one of the few diploma which is automatically recognized everywhere in the world regardless of the country it was awarded

If not teaching, what kind of jobs should the PhD holder be seeking?

As mentioned above, you could apply for a postdoc. Your PhD advisor could help you on that.
Alternatively, particularly with a PhD in economics, there are many options in the private sector. Banks, Insurances, Consulting, ... you name it.

As an aside: This forum might be a good idea to check if some particular qualification is accepted for a particular job over here (e.g. PhD for teaching), but I don't think you should look for general career advice here. We barely know you after all...

As spyfy said, the Financial Services industry could be one option. However just having a PhD in Economics won't by any means guarantee you a banking job. An employer will be looking to see how you are able to apply your knowledge in a business context and what experience/knowledge you have of the financial services industry as well.

Do you have any work experience related to economics?

You could also look at researcher / analyst / planner positions - see NOC 4163
