Hi

My gf who is a foreign national just found out that some post secondary private schools programs do not qualify for work visas, I am wondering when did these rules change and when did they come into affect.

I am not worried about my gf as she goes to a public university(which is on the list) but alot of her friends don't and the scary thing was my gf was thinking of going to these private schools.

I am not sure if this is the complete list but the schools my gf friends go to are not on the list. I also see that some of the schools I know about that I remember friends getting work visas after graduation are no longer on the list.

So what happens if you are a school that is not on the above list? What happens if you started before this list was updated, it was updated in October 2015, but many of her friends started September 2015.

Doesn't matter when they started school. The new rules impact them. I think what happens is pretty self-explanatory. If your school is not on the list then no PGWP.

Link does not work. So no chance at all? I heard they could appeal it or something. Is the list I have the complete list?

I don't believe there's actually a list of qualifying vs. non-qualifying schools out there. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I believe you're basically rolling the dice when it comes to attending a private institution.

I wouldn't trust your list as complete since it's not published by CIC (i.e. from the CIC web site). I would only trust something posted on the CIC web site as being complete.

1. Why do you think you can appeal for anything in Canada when rules are so clear and straight?
2. You have quoted an outdated link. No such list exist anymore.
3. Now only 'degree programs' (not diploma) from private schools (except in Quebec) with DLI designation are eligible for PGWP.

Quick question,would this program qualify:

humber.ca/program/information-technology-solutions-database-development-profile

It says it is 2 years and "Ontario Graduate Certificate" for the credential.I have been talking with them and we have always talked as it qualifies for a 3 year work permit.Would it be a mistake to follow this?

1. I going off information some other people said, hence why I asked "can you appeal it", also usually in Canada everything that can effect your life can be appealed.
2. Still very much active on BC website and was updated in October 2015. seems like most schools have DLI but it also has to be a degree program now or lead to degree program?

In the end, I am more curious as this does not effect my gf at all.

1. Ask yourself, who will issue PGWP? BC or CIC? If you think CIC then that link should be on the CIC website and its not on CIC web since June 2014.
2. All schools (private or public) must have a DLI for study permit eligibility.

I think what is confusing me is there is 2 prongs to this. One is the for the study permit and is for work permit. What confused me into thinking maybe it is the province is this line

To apply for a post-graduation work permit, please see Stay in Canada after graduation.

Attending a designated learning institution
To apply for a study permit on or after June 1, 2014, you will need to have a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution.

Each province and territory in Canada is responsible for designating schools at the post-secondary level that may enrol international students on or after June 1.

A list of designated learning institutions at the post-secondary level will be available on the CIC website by June 1, 2014.
If your study permit application is received on or after June 1 and your letter of acceptance is from an institution that is not designated for international students, your application will be refused.
All primary and secondary institutions in Canada are automatically designated but will not appear on the designated learning institution list. If you are applying for your child to study in Canada at the primary or secondary level, please see Get a study permit.

I am still confused about the requirements though about the work permit as there is 4 or statements and one just confuses me.

In addition, you must have graduated from:
a public post-secondary institution, such as a college, trade/technical school, university or CEGEP (in Quebec), or
a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as public institutions, or
a private secondary or post-secondary institution (in Quebec) offering qualifying programs of 900 hours or longer leading to a diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP) or an attestation de spécialisation professionnelle (ASP), or
a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees but only if you are enrolled in one of the programs of study leading to a degree as authorized by the province and not in all programs of study offered by the private institution.
what does "same rules and regulations one mean"?
