Thanks Jes for your reply. Can you also clarify if someone having PGWP and get study permit (if the program is more than 6 months), do you think that the study permit will restrict the hours on PGWP ? As for a normal study permit you can work 20hrs off campus so I was thinking in that context as I dont want that I apply for the study permit and next thing it impacts my PGWP. Any thoughts on this ?

If you get the study permit your work permit will be restricted to 20 hrs max a week like an off campus work permit. They might also cancel pgwp and you might have to reapply for Off campus work permit. Because an an international student you can't work full time while studying.

OMG how do you guys know that we cant have both? Have you done any research? Have you called CIC? I have asked them like 3 times and they said yes we can have both.

Yess found this on some website regarding holding both: http://www.mun.ca/isa/immigration/faqs.php

read the 11th bullet point and scroll down for details :)

@saadt, assuming you meet those conditions, why then did you apply for a study permit?

If I have a post graduate work permit, can I study?

- Yes, if the course is completed in less than 6 months
- Yes, if the course is 100% online with no on-campus requirement

Because you need a study permit for CGA. I can not enroll in CGA program without a study permit

Is the CGA program less than 6 months?

PMM already answered this.

Ok so what's gonna happen now? I have already applied for study permit while working on post graduate work permit? Are they gonna cancel my pgwp? If that happens then I will not let them cancel my pgwp because they provided me false information. 3-4 of their agents repeatedly told me that "yes you can have a study permit with PGWP".

So I got my study permit yesterday and I can still work full time under post graduate work permit :) so now I'm doing CGA plus gaining experience for Canadian experience class immigration :) work permit was not canceled nor it was changed to part time status

Hi Saadt,
I have found myself in the exact same situation as you trying to do CA while working fulltime at a public accounting firm.
After phone calls to CIC I have heard the same reponse from them. I was told that it was okay for me to work full time under PGWP while studying with my study permit. The study permit is the one I've had prior to applying for PGWP and CIC has confirmed that it has not been nullified or voided as a result of me applying for PGWP. Also, they told me that should I need to renew my study permit in the future my PGWP would remain active and alive. I have found this thread very useful in trying to rectify my issue especially given that, rather strangely as I would assume this would be a common issue, there was not very much resource out on the topic. Many thanks to you and others who have contributed to it. Good luck with your CGA courses.

To state my side of the story; I applied for CFA ( 3 year program that i can take any time with a 4 month exam window) in 2009 with Stalla ( its US based) and took classes with DEVRY International University and I worked FULL TIME on my 3 year PGWPT.
I didnt need study permit since it wasnt post secondary education as guided by CIC Call Center and my University Counsellor.
I had no issues in immigration as well.

But its best to take advise from BOTH your counsellor and CIC Call Center since terms and conditions differ on your WORK PERMIT.
Good luck ;)

IF THE LENGTH OF YOUR COURSE IS LESS THAN SIX MONTHS THEN YOU DONT NEED STUDY PERMIT, BUT IF ITS EXCEEDING BY ONE DAY YOU MUST NEED TO APPLY FOR STUDY PERMIT.

Just to clarify, You can be with the Post graduate work permit and study permit. I was working with my PGWP (from my first study permit) and was also going to college (got my second study permit I triple checked with CIC ). While on my PGWP I also did a certification for three months (not sure if I needed a study permit but I didnt get one)
