PGWP - need advise

Hello all,

My friend did a 1 year graduate course at George brown college and then another 1 year post-graduate course. Some of the seniors doing similar courses were able to get a 3 year PGWP while some got 1 year PGWP under the exact same conditions which is really weird.

What is the criteria for 3 year work permit? Do immigration officers count the total years on study permit? Or do they count the number of total credits acquired? Please advise.

HI not sure how to answer but you can the website for better answer , well it doesn't say anything about credits but it does say about duration of study.

There is not set criteria. You can get anything from 1 month to 3 years, that is the only thing for sure.

I'm sure it's not anything. A 2 year study is supposed to give you a 3 year work permit according to the CIC site. However, it doesn't state if the study has to be a full 2 year course or we could do 2 different courses of 1 year each.

Students getting different PGWP under the same conditions is what has me and my friend worried. Which one would we get?

it all depends on VO but the website does say about full time studies and i do know one guy who got PGWP for 3 years after studying 1 sem at one college and then transferring to another college in 1 year PG certificate ( with 2 months of coop) , but his application was supported by a letter explaining his studies which was written by a IMMIGRATION consult. Hope for the best ..good luck..
