Hi everyone,

I have live in the USA for about 5 years and with my asylum case pending at the immigration. I was recently obtain my Permanent Resident in Canada then move to Quebec with my wife. Due to the family emergency I have to travel back to my home country for a family emergency since I don't fear any persecution anymore. So I would like to know if since my case is still pending in the United State can I travel back to my home country and then apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document? The point here is to know if weather my case in the United State will cause a problem on my Permanent Resident Status in Canada?

Thank you

No both countries are independent. The appearance of filing for asylum and then returning to your home country definitely doesn't look great when you apply for citizenship or PR card renewal. You can't travel through the US for at least 10 years.

Hi @caruck78, Thank you very much for this . But the point I enter to Canada as an immigrant not as a refugee and my wife sponsor me. So I left everything behind on the US. I would like to know this can be a problem on my PR status in Canada when applying for PR card renewal or Citizenship? Also another question is that is my permanent resident travel document application going to be denied?

No issues for your status in Canada.

My wife in Canada sponsor me and the whole processing took about 19 months for me and 17 months for my wife. Because I was outside on Canada and needed a visa to cross the border
