Hi,

I am having trouble finding a way to return to Canada. I moved to Canada with my family many years ago although I never applied for citizenship I spent most of my life in Canada. Then about a year back my father wanted us to return to Saudi Arabia.

My mother, sister and I did not want to leave Canada but my father and brothers did. My older sister who was a adult at the time refused to come back to Saudi Arabia and is currently in a university in Canada.

Back in Saudi Arabia my parents divorced and my father brought legal trouble onto my mother. Now that she has served her punishment my mother recently left back for Canada using her Canadian passport (she is a citizen). Note: My father is not a citizen and does not meet RO anymore because he used to make trips back and forth a lot.

I was accepted in the University of Waterloo and University of Toronto and McGill and UBC for studying computer science while I lived in Canada but I could not attend because we left.

Now here my father does not allow me to go to any university or work and I must stay at home all day doing nothing or doing serving. I want to leave so badly before my RO is not met which will be quite soon.

However in Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to leave the country alone without a yellow card. (Permission card from a male guardian). I am at heart Canadian, I don't actually believe anything in Islam and see it as a tool to control and oppress people (especially women). My sister also feels the same way. And when my father was not around in Canada those were the happiest times of my life and I could act as I wanted.

In fact if I try to leave most likely they will most likely notify my father by sms. I don't know how my mother managed it (possibly the Canadian passport helped).

I still have a valid PR card but it is with my sister and there is no way of her sending it to me without it getting intercepted by my father or brothers. I don't have any money or anything but my mother and sister are willing to help in any way they can.

I can communicate with them only in secret, luckily I at least have a laptop with internet access.

Any advice will be appreciated.

It sounds like you will have to flee. Do you have any male relative who would help you flee? Can you get a yellow card and fake a signature? You would be in trouble if caught but the alternative is staying where you are.

Have you tried the Canadian consulate? http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/saudi_arabia-arabie_saoudite/contact-contactez.aspx?lang=eng They may not be able to help you but they might be able to give you some ideas.

1. Be *very* careful with that Internet access from your laptop. Make sure you delete cookies, history, messages & empty the cache each time you use it.

2. The Canadian embassy will probably not be able to help you, but *might* be able to advise your Canadian citizen mother.

3. Were you under 18 when your father took you back to Saudi? If so, you would have a good case to restore/retain PR, even if you fail the RO.

4. Your biggest -and most dangerous - problem at the moment, as I see it, is getting out of Saudi.

Are there any male relatives (uncles, grandfather?) to whom you could appeal to influence your father to let you go? Or who could sign your yellow card?

Are there any associations for women who might be able to help? I believe Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal supports women's rights; is it possible (AND SAFE) for you to try and contact his Foundation?

Hi
I can understand your situation. I think you are not a Saudi citizen but an expatriate living there. If that is the case then you tell your brother or father that you would like to go to your native country for a holiday and before that arrange with your mother to bring the PR card there. Once you are in your native country you can escape from them and take a flight to Canada. I think there are no yellow card restrictions in other Arab countries, such as Jordan, Lebanon, etc.

Just a few questions to clarify.. Your mom, was she already a Canadian citizen when you were born?

Why did you not refuse to leave Canada? Were you younger than 18 then?

Thanks..
