Hello everyone,

I was wondering how long it has taken for you to receive your PR card at your mailing address?
I got my landing documentation done and became a PR as of Apr 2nd, 2016. Its been 52 days now and I still have not received my PR card. Has anybody had a similar time line to mine and gotten it?

I'd appreciate your reply
Thanks

Hey man, sorry about not answering you the question and ask question instead. But I am curious that once you have your landing documentation and become a PR, does it mean you can come and live in Canada? Can you start to work? Or you will officially become PR holder only once you get the actual PR card? Thank you very much!

Hey mary_27
Please check this thread http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/track-your-pr-card-timeline-and-processing-times-here-t394703.0.html

According to the current official statistic at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp, new PR card processing time is 51 days. So probably your PR card is already on the way back to you in mail~

Hey sevixs,

After landing you will officially become a PR and you are able to live and work in Canada. You just need to apply for a social insurance number at Service Canada to be able to sign a legal work contract.

The PR card will only affect your re-entry to Canada if you have international trips.

Thanks for replying. I really hope so. I'm going to give them a call for sure.
meanwhile if anybody has a similar timeline I'd be grateful to get a heads up.

Just in case I don't get my card on time, do you know how long it takes for issuing a travel document that is needed to come back to Canada after traveling abroad?

How long it takes to have the travel document issues depends a lot on the particular VOmwhere you would send your request. So my suggestion would be to contact the vo in your country and ask them about their average processing time.

That should give you a good idea about what to expect, just in case you need it.

Its a letter so cannot be more than 5 business days based on Canada Post standards.

No signature required. In my case, they just left it in the mailbox.

They leave it in the mailbox as a normal letter. Unfortunately there is no tracking/signature required.

I am not sure how you would know when they sent the PR Card unless you called IRCC. I was never notified about any progress on PR card and it simply showed up in my mailbox about 7 weeks after landing.

If you call IRCC, they might be able to tell you if yours has already been mailed or not. If yes, just check the canada post website for the average delivery standards for regular lettermail.

Thanks for replying. I called indeed and they said it was picked up on May 25th Wed morning. Canada post for lettermail says up to 4 days but when i called them they said 6 days. I wished there were people here who knew about how long it take to reach Ontario usually. :(
