It has been about 45 days & no words on our PCC from Indian consulate Chicago
How long does it generally take? These guys don't answer phones, so finding difficult to contact them.

Sorry to hear your plight.
However, the length depends on the following
1. Where your passport was issued. If in from US takes longer. In my case it took nearly 2 months as it was issued in Washington D.C
2. The embassy/consulate. In New York they are very helpful and call us when it is ready and give explanation for any delay.
3. How old your passport is. Latest ones get faster response.

Good luck though and you will get it soon for sure!!

These guys are real lazy. I send them all forms and money 2 months back through registered mail. NO Word till date.

I emailed them. they said, "If you don't hear reply in 60 days - Apply again". What the heck. What about the money you already took. They are full of crap, believe me. I have yet to respond to their email.

Send them an email. I know that Indian Embassy in Washington is pretty good at replying back and sorting out the issues.

I had applied for my passport renewal recently (last month). After about 10 days (actually 5 working days) I called them and asked them for the status of my appication (talked to somebody live!!! Amazing isnt it!!! LOL ). She said that it has been only 5 working days since I had applied and asked to call back after 10 or 15 working days. But 2 days later I received my new passport!!! Call them and talk (if you can get hold of a person), it works sometimes.

Normally the processing times are published in respective Indian Consulate websites...

At SFO center, PCC processing times (if applying by mail) are 30 working days for passports issued in India or other consulates and 10 working days for passport issued at SFO.

Hi Friends

Regarding PCC from Indian consulate, I would advise to get it from India. Its quick, cheaper and yes it is acceptable by CIC. This is personal experience. Just send an authorisation letter in a relative's name authorising him/her to apply and collect PCC on your behalf addressed to your local SSP Office. Send photocopy of your passport, your ration card and/or voter I card copy (should your parents have one at home), two pics (at times they are not even asked for) and that should be ok.

All the best.

singh - from where? how did you get?
Dear Abhi

It is simple and faster as well as cheaper. Just follow what I have written in the post above and send a relative/parent with the documents and they should be able to apply for you and collect it on your behalf, from your local SSP office. Meanwhile if you have already applied through Indian consulate let it be processed as well. You can use the one which arrives earlier. If you have any further query please get back.
There is no standard procedure for PCC in India, so they are flexible and you know how to make them flexible...!!! However the PCC may be time specific say if you stayed at your residence since birth till dd/mm/yy when you went abroad. Which is OK and acceptable.

Regards

singh, i have a very bad outlook about Indian polices especially; these b*rds made me suffer 2 yrs for my first passport since my dad did not bribe the local police thana; not much harassment, but nothing moved (he was a 'principled school teacher'; the thanadaar knew him very well, so never asked for money either!); these folks behave as if they are zamindars & commoners are their slaves!

abhi,

i'm not sure if diva's post has anything to do with your situation:
1. your question is regarding pcc and her post is for passport renewal.
2. you're dealing with chicago and i'm pretty sure she's talking about dc.

i guess she wanted to chime in regarding response from indian consulate in general.
