I have scanned through many posts and have found conflicting information as to whether it is possible to pay the $1040 using a Visa debit card. Can anyone give me some current info on this

Thanks

That's a good question. I'd a little more information on paying fees as well.
My husband and I were going to pay with his credit card but he has a $1000 limit.
So, obviously if we payed all the $1040 at once it'd go over...
But on the website it makes it look like you pay the $75 first and then click on over to the PR section and pay those fees.
Can someone explain if this is correct?

yep, i used my BOA visa debit card to pay the fees. As long as it's a visa card, you can use it. i think it only takes visa/mastercard. we paid the $75 fee before we applied, just so we had proof of our intentions when i crossed the border, then we paid the applicant fee when we sent in the application. We decided to wait to pay the final fee until we got closer to approval. if there's a limit on the CC, you can easily just ask the bank to up it.

You may be able to do it both ways. I just started going through the payment process(without completing it) and I had all the payment $1040 due at one time. I guess you could just check off one section at a time and pay separately. I just don't like the idea of having more than one receipt.

So you just used the debit card attached to your bank account??

Yes, my bank debit card has a visa logo on it, so it can be used as a credit card as well. i am not sure if just a straight up debit card will work.

Hmmmm I'm curious then if my husband's virtual visa debit will work. It's made for paying things online since Canada uses Interac for debit cards (so lame!).
And he doesn't want to up his max limit on his credit card.
Maybe we'll try the Virtual Visa Debit and see how that goes..

if it provides the 3 digit security code that is usually found on the back of the card, my guess it will work. that number is required to process the payment. it will certainly let you know if it doesn't go through. when i tried with my canadian visa connected to our savings account, it didn't work.

I believe it does have that 3 digit number!
So hoping it works because that would make it so much easier and it'll take right from his checking acct!

Mine has the Visa logo (First Tennessee) and has the 3 digit code so hoping that everything goes OK with the payment

I only have Visa debit and have never been able to pay for anything on CIC. I always pay with someone else's credit card (and pay them directly). I use CIBC here in Canada, so it might be different if you're in the States. But my Visa Debit from Canada does not work to pay fees online.

Same with the canadian Visa virtual debit from RBC. Its not working on CIC, payment is denied.

Oh no :( Ours is from RBC. Maybe we'll just up the credit card amount. His mom's credit card is maxed and I really want to pay online and have it done with the receipt so that I can apply for an extension and show we paid $1040 and aren't messing around.
