Just called agent and was told that they have stamped the VISA on my passport, but my GCKEY status was never updated. Anyone knows why this could be the case?

Hi all
Today I went with my wife to do the Flag pole at Prescott, ON/Ogdensburg, NY. I had no issues going to the US border and returning to Canada. However, the officer on the Canadian side said that we are not supposed to go to the border to Flag pole. He said that we are supposed to Call Imigration and book an appointment instead. He also requested our previous work/ study visa (OLD ones)which we do not have at that time with us. After a while he decided to stamp our papers and Welcome us to Canada. So for what I understood they are trying to avoid people going to the border to get their papers stamped but that is different of CIC says and from the phone call chat that we had with CBSA. Anyone had the same experience?

He is right about bringing your old work permits or study permits. Even if they're expired, you need to bring them so they could officially be voided.

However, he is completely erroneous about booking an appointment. You should've told him that according to the CIC website, you can go to the border and flagpole. He was definitely trying to mislead you in that area. Everyone flagpoles at the border. Appointments can be made but is not the only/popular option.

Regardless, welcome to Canada and congratulations!!! :)
