Passport submission to New Delhi Visa office from USA

Hello there, I had completed the medicals for me and my family on June 15th 2013. I had sent the documents except for our passports to the ND visa office with a cover note that I will submit my passports when requested. Initially my travel was for 6 weeks and I had intended to return to India and take my family along. However I did not get a passport request and I travelled to the US with my family.

I just got a letter today that I have not submitted my passport after six weeks as I promised in the letter and have been asked to submit passports at the earliest. I know it is not legal to courier passports to India. Is there any other option? I am trying to find if anybody from my friends's circle is travelling to India shortly and intend to send the passports with them and ask them to courier it to the embassy. I am also changing the address to my brother's place so that I can organize to get the passports back here through someone once we get it back.

Will this work? Please suggest if someone was in a similar scenario as I am running short of time and face a chance for rejection if I don't act quickly

Hey, thats the only option you have got buddy. Search for somebody or let any of your family members carry the passports to India. As you know couriering the passports to/from India is illegal so dont think of going for it.
