Hi all, after using this site many times throughout our entire process, I have finally hit a speed bump that I could not find any solution to and therefore I am making my first post!

My wife has sponsored me for PR - we sent our application off in March 2015 under common law but have since been married and have updated our application.

We applied from outside of Canada as we are both living in the Cayman Islands, sent our paperwork off to Mississauga and had her approved as the sponsor. We had been told that my paperwork would be sent off to Jamaica, but upon seeing the processing times were huge (29months), we requested they be sent to London, England as that is where I am from and at the time, their processing times were less (19 months originally but jumped to 28months after we sent off our paperwork).
After my wife was approved as a sponsor, they sent our application to Ottawa instead of London to our surprise, as this had a much shorter processing time (17months) giving us an estimated hearing date of October 2016.
On Friday evening(13/11/2015), we received an email requesting my passport be sent to Trinidad & Tobago and upon checking our application status online, it now states Decision Made!!
This is obviously amazing news and came at such a shock coming in 1 whole year earlier than expected, but now puts us in a sticky situation!

We are leaving our home of the Cayman Islands permanently on December 17th, flying to Toronto for a few days before flying to England and then onto Spain to do some traveling for a few months. All of our flights and travel arrangements have already been made and I am concerned that I will not receive my passport back in time for our departure in 4.5 weeks time.
Also, I just got my passport out ready to send off first thing Monday morning and realised that I do not have two blank pages as they have requested, I only have one empty page left!

Help!!? :-X

Hi

As you've said you are from England, I assume you hold a British passport. If so, you are visa-exempt and CIC does not require your passport. Reply to the email with a photocopy of your passport and emphasize that you hold a visa-exempt British passport and that you will be travelling soon.

Also, a quick lesson on CIC processing times. The posted times are not averages; it's how long it took to process 80% of apps, meaning 79% are processed faster. The actual average tends to be closer to around half the posted processing time. It was also perfectly normal for your app to be sent to Ottawa; London had a serious backlog, so many apps were sent to Ottawa or kept in Mississauga.

Yes, I have a British passport... that would be amazing and solve both issues of not enough time and not enough pages!

I am planning on calling the High Commission in Trinidad & Tobago first thing tomorrow morning to get clarification on the whole situation, I'm wondering if it has something to do with where we live? Hopefully it's just a mistake on their part and that I am actually visa-exempt!

Actually, thinking about this, is my paperwork still at the CPC-Ottowa and they are just asking me to send my passport to T&T as that is the closest High Commission? Who would be the best people to contact to get clarification? Trinidad, Ottowa or just the main call centre?

As I stated, reply to the email request. There is no point in contacting the Trinidad and Tobago office and definitely don't call the Call Centre.

Thanks for your help.

I replied to their email and also sent it to the email address that they provided for Trinidad & Tobago, knowing that they can take a month to reply to their emails isn't much comfort knowing that I only have a month to send it and a month until I fly, I called the Call Center and spoke to a very helpful person who, after checking twice with her supervisors, instructed me to send only a photocopy of my passport & accompany it with a letter explaining why I did not send my original passport.

Thanks again for pointing this out to me, I would never of known about this if it weren't for your help!
