Just to re-confirm, i need not inform cic regaridng my passport renewal?

When you apply to renew your pr card, then you need to inform CIC about your new passport as "One (1) main identity document"

Thanks a ton! I checked with cic call center as well they also said the same thing, that till PR card is valid we are not concerned with a change in passport number. The name and DOB should just match

Interesting. I will have about 2.5-3 years on my passport before I have to renew my passport. so long as the gap between renewing the passport and renewing PR is a year or more that's a great help.

Should I renew ? Or can I enter Canada as a Permanent Resident ?

Yes, you can enter Canada with current passport and renew afterwards.

@steaky, mine is a similar case but I want to renew my passport before my first landing in Canada. So effectively, I will be landing with 2 passports, ie old and new. Visa stamp would be in the old expired passport. Would this be a problem for me?

If i renew my pr card first, is there any chance that ircc officials should put objection on my pr card renewal application and say that i have to renew my passport first because its validity is less than 6 months.

Is passport must be valid for 6 months or more if we want to renew pr card?

Or should i go for pr card renewal first then go for my passport renewal.

Is PR card renewal related to Passport expiry date.?

Please advise me.

Dear All,

I am a PR Card holder for the province of Manitoba. I have landed in March 02, 2019 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and received PR card within 21 days and later on left Canada for my home country due to some other reason. Since then I have been living in my home country. However, I am planning to settle there in the February, 2022 and will meet my PR obligations. However, my passport validity period will expire on 03, April , 2022. Do I need to renew my passport in order to travel to Canada as well as to pass through the immigration back here in my home country. If I need to renew my passport, should I need to inform the CIC immediately and do I must the passport where there was stamp of PR visa. Any advice is highly appreciated .
