Passport Expired - stuck in canada

Currently in canada and my passport expired. I have my valid PR card. The consulate wants a proof of status to process the new passport.

Proof of status from IRCC is taking forever. I am stuck in canada.

Is there anyway to get the proof of status faster. I really need the passport to go to my home country.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the consulate know that you have a valid PR card...which would seem to prove that you have status?

Actually...even with an expired PR card you still have PR status; it never expires. It can be revoked if you fail to meet the R.O. (Residency Obligation), or voluntarily renounce your PR.

I showed all the Docs PR related to the consulate. But they specifically want me to verify status from IRCC. The processing time for that is 22 weeks. Doesn’t make any sense why IRCC needs 5 months to send a simple letter. I assume PR card was enough proof. This is clearly frustrating.

This has nothing to do with Canada. It’s up to your home country government what knd of proof they are willing to accept unfortunately.
