Passing the time

I got into running and walking as exercise and just generally spending a lot of time working on my health and improving my eating habits and stress-coping skills. You'd have to know me to understand why this was a lot of work, but it took a lot of my time. I also tried to catch up on my fiction, I love to read, but for the longest while the only books I read were professional texts. So I indulged myself at used bookstores, reading as much as I wanted in my spare time, of which we all know waiting out immigration can suddenly produce A LOT, even when we are employed full-time!

I most recently read the "Hunger Games" trilogy. I had heard that the movie makes much more sense if you read the book first (although I would have read it anyway), so I have now read all three and still haven't seen the movie. Hmmm too late, it's not in the theatre anymore (and I'm a theatre kind of person, not much of a movie renter).

Does anyone have spouses who haven't been to Canada? Or haven't been here much. What do you want to show them in Canada? I'm in Alberta, so Calgary and Banff will be our first stop. He wants to see Toronto and Niagra Falls.

Arriving in Canada to become a PR was my first time setting foot here. I have a long list of places my hubby and I want to see together. Niagara Falls is definitely on the list. He has also promised to take me to Banff and the Calgary Stampede out west because he spent a lot of time working in and around Calgary and wants to show me that part of the country. Vancouver, Toronto, Charlottetown and Ottawa (because one must see the capital of one's new country, after all).

Right now, I'm just sad

I know how you feel rose, it is the same for most of us. I get sad and down in the dumps often, but my hubby helps to make me feel better, its good to talk to your loved one if you can.. I need reassured alot of the time as the distance makes you second guess things and feel less than secure. But he always lets me know that he is not going anywhere and is here (there) for me.

I don't go out much, I tend to stay home alot and just do things around the house to keep as busy as I can, I go to work everyday so that helps somewhat.. Believe me I know how you feel, it isnt easy and nor does it get easier.... Hang in there.

Yes, Ottawa is on our list too.. I forgot, yes you have to see the parliment So is the stampede, but you should definitely see Banff/Lake Louise, I think it's one of the most beautiful places in Canada.

I work extra too, and am taking some online courses as I know life will be much busier once he is here. And read this forum, especially on boring days at work like today!

I lived in Banff for 5 years in my wild youth.....great times...LOL.....I live about 2 hours east of Toronto so my husband will land in TO...but will want to take him to downtown TO and the ROM and Zoo and definitely Niagara Falls.....and from there we will figure it out.......I have a travel bug and Yoani is itching to travel...so in between weekend trips in Ontario and Cuba trips we want to discover the rest of the world......

Luis (my hubby) has travelled in South America but that's it. No first world countries. I use to live in Banff as well, when I first came to Alberta 6 years ago. But I wasn't in my wild youth any longer.. so it got a little boring after a couple of years lol. I live in Fort McMurray now. That's where we will live. We love to travel too. His grandmother who's now 87 has two wishes... for us to have children.. and to take her to Cuba. So Cuba is on our list! Plus I have a little crush on William Levy.. and he makes me want to go to Cuba.. lol I lived in Chatham ON when I was a teenager and never did go to Niagra Falls. So that would be nice. It's funny that a lot of people that married someone from another country are passionate about travel. I don't think it;s a coincindence It's nice to see people interested and open to other cultures!

My mom and dad used to have a small garden in the back yard. Every year my mom would bake fresh strawberry and rhubarb pies! Awesome with a scoop of really yellow french vanilla ice cream!!

Actually, my mom used to bake a lot when we were growing up...always very fresh ingredients...my friends would LOVE coming over for dinner...

I have a list of things I want her to make for me when I get back home!! She'll be busy for weeks...haha!!

When I worked overseas, a lot of time was spent with our co-workers sitting around and thinking of our homes. One of the best subjects of conversation was "what is the first thing you will eat when you get home." We thought the food was so terrible where we were working. It was always a great conversation starter because we were made up of over 100 different nationalities. Usually people would go into detail about what they would ask their mums to cook for them on their first night home.. it was really interesting. Unfortunately my mum is not a great cook! So I would always be jealous of the others who could look forward to their Mum's cooking.

What will you guys cook for your partners when they get to Canada? What places will you show them? We have a list, about 4 years old, of what he will cook for me when he gets here.

Banff seems popular! Lived there myself for 5 years as well! Miss all the outdoor activities, especially skiing at sunshine and the lake

Banff is popular for people that like to travel.. and it seems many people here like to travel..

The list of places and things to do when we arrive in Canada is so long! Definitely, I will take my wife and son to meet family and friends (if I still have friends living in my hometown - 13 years removed!).

As for food, so many! Home cooked meals...a real steak and potatoes dinner...the list is so long!

I will take my wife and son on a tour of my elementary school and my high school. I will show them the university and places of interest (not too many where I grew up). I will also take them to Toronto to show them where I lived during my internship...where I worked...the places I visited in the city (especially some of the better restaurants)...

Home cooked meals is what I crave the most...and time with my mom and dad. It's been incredibly hard on them to be separated by thousands of miles. I haven't been back since 2005...no time and it's so expensive...lame excuses, I know...but I guess that's life...I can't wait to be able to help out around the house...take my parents out for nice meals...be there for special occasions...etc...etc...etc...

Since I recently received my sponsorship approval, I'll spend a lot less time checking my email 100x a day!

I've been out enjoying the summer, swimming, bike riding, road trips, ect. And it's also Stampede week in Calgary so there's lots to do and see (fireworks and free breakfasts and BBQ are my fav part).
