I am a Canadian citizen and i want to pass down my citizenship to my child who was born outside Canada. I tried applying online but it asks me to input "When did the minor become a permanent resident of Canada?" My child has never been to Canada and does not have a PR, can I leave this part of the application blank or is there a way to bypass this?

I think the problem is that you are filling out forms for a grant of citizenship, whereas - if the child is eligible - you need to apply for a proof of citizenship (the difference being that if eligible, the child is already a citizen and just needs to be able to show it).

So two questions: were you born in Canada?

If you were naturalized - was the child born after you became a citizen?

If the answer to either of these is yes, you need to apply for proof of citizenship for the child
