My pricing is a bit out of date. Most in Canada don’t understand the costs of ageing and what will and won’t be covered. People would assume renting a hospital bed for your home would be free for example or getting mobility aids are free but typically there are costs associated with all these things.
agree. Unless patient is getting donated equipment from charity, it cost a lot to own or rent them.
A hospital bed cost a few thousands. customized wheelchair also a few thousands (depending on if patient needs customization and how many). Air mattress for bedridden patients are close to $1000 up a piece and 3 or 4 sections are needed per bed to avoid bed sore. It all adds up.

Provinces need to a much better job telling people what they need to be prepared for as they age.

It’s not . Mind you my father has the resources to pay for top notch ltc . It all adds up . My father is currently doing physio . Each session costs $150 and it’s not covered by AHS.

Most outpatient physio is not covered by provincial healthcare. I adore my physio but could have bought a very nice car for what I’ve spent on physio over the past 15 years. I consider myself very lucky to be able to access services not covered by provincial healthcare since many are not.
