I received the invite yesterday to apply for my parents. My most obvious concern is the name discrepancy in my birth certificate and my passport. My dads name in slightly different on my birth certificate and his passport. Same applies for my mom. So do I need to get affidavits done stating that the different names are one and the same person?

Hi guys - I am a Canadian Citizen studying outside of Canada for 12 months (full-time post-secondary education). I got an invitation to apply for parents' PR. I met all the financial requirements for the past 6 years and own a house in Canada. Am I still eligible to apply and sponsor my parents if I am studying outside of Canada?
No you are not. You need to live on Canada to be eligible as a sponsor, as you are studying out side of Canada that is considered as not living Canada.

I wish you had checked eligibility before submitting EoI to sponsor. Now you have not and are invited, one possible way to proceed further is to move back to Canada and apply. Few excerpt from the above link that a lot of us wished you should have read are below

- you’re at least 18 years old
- you live in Canada
- Who can’t sponsor a parent or grandparent

I was living in Canada when I applied. Will move back if I have to but students studying outside of Canada are considered "deemed residents of Canada"
My apologies for lack of my knowledge re “deemed … of Canada” and best of luck. Not even sure what that is and if that makes one to considered as “living in Canada”.
P.S: if you are studying abroad for 12 months, i.e., since Sept 2020, then you were definitely not living on Canada at the time of the submission of EoI, i.e., Oct 2020.
My dude, I moved out of Canada and started my studies this week. We are in 2021. I applied in October 2020 and was in Toronto back then. Look it up on a map and see where it is. The purpose is to help people here and not take your frustration out on them if you did not get an invite yet. I hope you do and can re-unite with your parents.
I don't see him/her as venting their frustration. It was confusion resulting from you saying you've been studying abroad for 12 months which led us to believe you'd applied when you were not a resident of Canada. Only this message clarified that you started your studies this week for the next 12 months.
And s/he also apologized for their lack of knowledge about your particular situation. All I see is your frustration.
My intention is not that and definitely not spilling my frustration at you. If you find that then sorry, but just read what you wrote. You were studying abroad from 12 months that means, 12 months from now (2021 Sept), which I am sure would be 2020 Sept.
By the way, as you have asked if you are eligible or not, and my intention was to answer that, which definitely is not putting my frustration, my rational mind would never do that. And answer to that question is "you are eligible not as long as you are living abroad". You need to live in Canada at the time of your application (application to be a sponsor by you and a permanent resident by your parent/grandparent, both can be done together) and must live in Canada until the decision is made. If you read carefully my earlier reply, I even provided you one way which can make you eligible, that is by moving to Canada and start living here, before you apply and until the decision is made.
P.S: Before you take your frustration at me for not being eligible as of now (but you have a chance to be eligible by moving back to Canada not just by being "deemed resident"), I would highly suggest read what you wrote, what I replied and information that IRCC have posted by clicking the link that I have posted in my earlier reply.
You still aren’t eligible to sponsor as your primary residence isn’t currently in Canada. “Deemed resident” is for CRA taxation purposes, not actual physical presence. .
