This helps. I had the same situation today. Hope to see the medical request soon.
It seems to be a bit random. Some are getting request for biometrics for parents visiting Canada already and some are not. I ou will have to wait and see your case.
Do they request biometrics for everyone or it depends? My parents are in Canada from last 5 months. This is their third time visiting me. However I want to know because they are on visitor visa and I was planning to do an extension but if they ask biometrics they have to go back to India to get it done. Pls advise
Some seem to be asked for biometrics and others not so you’ll have to wait and see.
There are stretches where it seems like nothing is happening but it your application is in process. Considering the government gives out the estimate of 12-24 months the applications are still on track to be processed much faster. Just be patient
Depends on the which visa office your case is forwarded. If it is Mississauga, you may not need it at all. If it is Hong Kong, you definitely need it. Timing wise, it is hard to say.

Finally able to link the application today(I had a character missing in the passport in the
application file but CIC had the correct one).
It says they have requested the medical. Haven't seen anything in email or in CIC yet though.

FYI: My mom had undergone medicals within Canada for her visitor visa extension this year (2019) but CIC still asked for medical as a part of her PGP PR application. Hope this helps
