I wont say this to you, but I must say one thing.. now when i compare this time (since i am in Canada, applying for various things, searching for a good job, settling myself in much smaller residence compare in Pakistan etc) to that tough WAITING period, believe me it was nothing. Whatever time you are passing with your close relatives is very precious.

Also, utilize this time by preparing yourself for here. Make your mind what you wanna do when you land here, either further studies OR job search. If you want to search job 1st, learn the Canadian job market, their demands. Make CVs which will capture employers attention quickly. (I made 6 OR 7 Resume for different companies)

Further Studies are your target then check with SAIT OR Columbia college about their courses. As I am here in Calgary, will be applying in University of Calgary for Masters inshahAllah.

Also, Prepare yourself for Knowledge test online (1st stage driving test for Drivers class 7).

I really miss that time, when i was waiting for the visa in Pakistan and didnt do much.

Ask whatever you want to, I will try to help you in every way brother. Dont lose hope.

Excellent post mythestic. I can't agree more what you just said. We should really be doing better with our time, than worrying about next step in immigration process. Could you share more about what you posted above?

- Like do you think its better to get a job straightaway? or pursue some Canadian studies before entering the market? What is your personal experience?

- How difference our CVs should be for the Canadian market?

- Do you have any resource for driving license test preparation? Website perhaps, that we can study.

Service Canad offices are closed on the followingays;
New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day
so their offices will remain closed on Decemebr 25 & 26 and January 1.

tickets will be expensive after christmas uptill january 20, so either to plan before christmas or after january 20. I have planned to travel in december(inshAllah) and i am also travelling with kida under the age of 10, like you. if your kids are school going then you should plan to travel in december instead of March.

Yeh hafta bhi bohat mubarak raha, bohat se logon ko PPR1 PPR2 or Visas issue huay, unn sab logon ko Bohat mubarak hu or jo loug intizaar ker rahay hain Allah paak unn ko bhi jald uz jald khushkhabri utta karay, Aameen.

No problem mate, you can email me anytime you want with your queries. I am in Calgary, will try to help you out in whatever manner i can.

- Further studies OR job: It depends, I got job at Shell/PetroCanada easily but i denied. Typical survival jobs.. They are somewhat tough jobs that pays around $10 to $11.. At end of the month, you will be making around $1600 only. SO if you got job in your related field then its the best situation, but if not, I suggest you to study more from their respective colleges/universities.
Because when you will apply for the course, you will also apply for loan, your kitchen will be safe then while your studying. Govt will help you as you are a new immigrant. More or less same money you will be getting with studies (between $1200 to $1800).

- In Pakistan, we only make one CV. But here, people make their CVs according to their jobs. IF you are willing to work in a store/gas pump etc, your CV will be different with additional duties performed. If you are applying in a reputed organization, your CV will be totally different. try jobbank.gc.ca OR google it (Canadian Resume)

- For driving, i just cleared the knowledge test (people should apply n clear it just after they arrive, I took much time to apply though) by solving practice tests and reading their material from these websites:
