I'm only asking because my ex wife took off a few weeks after arriving (this was ten years ago), and got deported four months later. I'm guessing she likely didn't collect welfare during that time, considering how long it's been now.

We do see situations here from time to time where people don't find out an ex has taken welfare until they try to sponsor someone new. So yes, there's some possibility your ex may have taken welfare.

Have to see what happens with new my sponsorship. Fingers crossed. Regardless, four months isn't a long time to collect it, which is good in a sense.
