OWP extension after Inland Spousal Sponsorship has been submitted

We have recently (in Dec 2020) submitted a spousal PR application without extending my spouse’s OWP. Her OWP expires in July 2021 and we were thinking that it makes sense to apply to extend it in February or March 2021.

Questions are: does this make sense? Can we submit an OWP extension after submitting a sponsorship app? Also, can the extension application be submitted online or it must be a paper app?

I read something about AIP before OWP extension, please what does that mean?

Thanks so much

On what grounds would her OWP be extended? Did she submit an OWP application along with her inland sponsorship?

This is the part that I do not get. Why didn't you submit a new OWP application with your inland sponsorship application?

She did not, the current OWP will expire in July, so we though 8 months is a long time. I guess it was a silly mistake.

Anything we can do?

I guess we messed up.At that time, her OWP would expire in 8 months. So we thought we should wait till February or March

From what I've read, you can only apply for OWP if it's sent together with the inland application.
After that, you will need to wait for AIP. Currently OWP of inland sponsorship takes more than 6 months... so if you had applied, it would have fit in your timeline.... anyway. moving forward.

I am not sure if there are new programs to extend or to apply for new work permit because of the COVID delay.

(I read something about PGWG wait and OWP yesterday)

So it depends on what your spouse's current work permit .
