OWP and Visitor Extension when sending Inland Application?

Wondering if I have to submit both an "open" work permit AND a visitor visa extension with my Spousal Sponsorship on my Inland Application? We're sending it out next week? I'm a US citizen with a Visitor Visa good until June 30, 2013. I've heard doing just the OWP application is suitable enough and ensures that I have implied status until a decision is made on my PR for the OWP?

When sending the Inland Application, send an OWP with it so you can begin working once you get AIP.

But once you receive an AOR from CIC for the PR application, you have Implied status until DM is made.
