I'll immigrate to Canada in a few months. There's a family business in which I'm one of the directors and have been silent on all operations with no pay. Is it okay for me to keep it even after immigration to Canada? I won't get paid for it. It's just an elderly member wish in the family that he wants me to be "part of" the family business although I have no idea what my authority is being a director.
If this kind of setting won't raise any possible redflags with the CRA down the road, I certainly don't want to make a fuss over it with that elderly. Otherwise, I'll need to address it before I leave for Canada.
I certainly won't lie about the position when being asked (by CRA or employer) but I'm sure my family won't want me to disclose anything about it. It's a cultural thing to keep family related stuffs as secret as possible, I don't think I'll ever understand this kind of thinking in my life. Maybe that's why the immigration.
