Outland Sponsors Income Issues

Planning on sponsoring my husband from USA under family sponsorship class-outland.
Husband and I lived in US for eight years, he was self-employed and I was a housewife, we have a young son.
Currently, we are both in Canada and unemployed. Naturally, my husband can not work as he is a visitor.
As a sponsor with zero income, how does income impact the result of our application?

There is no income requirement to sponsor your husband but I believe that you cannot be on welfare/benefits as when you undertake sponsorship you are agreeing to financially support your husband for a set period of time. I'm sure from previous posts you have to be off welfare for around 12 months. You need to be able to demonstrate you can support him and you will not require financial assistance from the state.

on top of that, if you have used welfare in canada in the past 12 months, it's vital for you to obtain written proof from provencial services that you are no longer on the list for welfare, and if possible confirm specifically what date you stopped using the benefits. CIC will do checks, though they don't always go deep enough to prove the person is no longer receiving benefits. if you are still on the provencial list even though you are not receiving benefits, and cic gets that info, they will reject you as a sponsor.

Thanks for the information (rhcohen and brucem). Husband and I have been married for 8 years (married in Toronto), we have a seven year old who is a dual citizen (born in Lincoln, Nebraska). We lived in the states for the past seven years, we owned and operated a motel. Once we sold the motel we arrived in Toronto on Aug. 2013. Immediately after that we took a long vacation to India. I stayed for five months and my husband stayed for 13 months (he wanted to complete some Cisco Certification Courses). He arrived back on Sep. 9 2014 and we decided to file for outland sponsorship. We are staying with my parents and I am not employed. I have been a housewife for the past eight years, was concerned once I looked at the application and request for income. I do plan on working in the future, I have not been looking because I was unsure of what our planes were. We want to file outland because we have been reading on the threads it the fastest way for a US citizen, however it could get delayed if they request a interview. My husband is eager to get out the in-laws place and start working, he does not want to wait over year or two. Should I get a job and then apply for sponsorship? I have never accepted any kind of welfare.

Well thats good that you have not been on welfare. It might be worthwhile getting your parents to write a letter saying they will financially support you but getting some form of work might be no bad thing either. What CIC are looking for is assurance that you wont need welfare support so having a detailed plan should help. You certainly wont have any problems proving your relationship etc so its just making sure the financial bit is covered!

exactly. there is no income requirement, and there are many people without jobs who successfully sponsor thir spouses. as bruce mentioned, cic will be most concerned about whether it's likely you will use welfare upon moving to canada, so it's your job to prove you have a solid plan for when you get there. proof of family help, savings, etc. will be helpful.. you do not need to get a job in order to sponsor.

Thanks again for the quick response guys. We are lucky we have family who have our backs financially. Husband and I planned for this period, we have savings that can cover us for a while. Will have some cash on hand and some savings in bank accounts. I can show the bank statements that will show the savings but how do we show the cash?

I know outland sponsorship takes little over 6 months, but if we get a interview it could take over two years. Inland sponsorship will guarantee my husband a work permit in 13 months. Should we take a chance with outland even if I am not working or you think they could call us in for a interview.

Dont go Inland!!! You have been together for a long time, have a kid and owned a business.....and you are married you cant really get better than that. Inland applications have ground to a halt of late so I believe. I'm sure rhcohen will back me up on this one you could have the process done and dusted in 6 months. The time for inland applications has been creeping up and up, honestly dont worry. As for the cash....stick it in the bank, best way to show it.

NO! do not apply inland. 99% of applications do NOT get interviewed! the "trends" for interviews is when there is a non-accompanying dependant issue, criminality issue, or the person is not a us citizen (rather a resident of the us). It is HIGHLY unlikely you will get called into for an interview. Your case is pretty straight forward. get inland out of your head. it makes absolutely NO SENSE!!!!!
