HELLO..
IM STILL IN PROCESS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE AND IM PREGNANT, I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD LET CIC KNOW ABOUT MY PREGNANCY AND HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY CASE? WHEN WE STARTED THE WHOLE PROCESS BACK IN FEB 2010, THE PROCESSING TIME FOR MY AREA WAS 18 MONTHS, THEN CHANGED TO 14, NOW ITS 12 MONTHS OF WAITING, WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR 11.5 MONTHS NOW, WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT OUR PROCESS WILL FINISH BEFORE MY DUE DATE ( OCT 1ST)? WE ARE REALLY CONCERNED CUZ WE'D LIKE THE BABY TO BE BORN IN CANADA SO WE AVOID ALL THE HASSLE OF WAITING FOR THE PROCESS (IF BABY IS BORN IN MY HOME COUNTRY).

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW (REGARDING IMMIGRATION) IF I GIVE BIRTH IN MY COUNTRY? WILL WE HAVE TO RE-DO THE WHOLE CASE OR JUST REQUEST FOR BABY'S CANADIAN PASSPORT ONCE HE/SHE IS BORN??

IM LOST, CONFUSED AND VERY CONCERNED, I DONT KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO, I'D APPRECIATE ANY ANSWERS.

PD: I FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION. WHEN WE FILED OUR APPLICATION THEY ASKED US TO PROVIDE MEDICAL AND CRIMINAL RECORDS ALONG WITH THE APPLICATION PACKAGE. THIS WAS IN JANUARY 2010, OBVIOUSLY MY MEDICAL RESULTS AND CRIMINAL FILES EXPIRED, MY CONCERN IS THAT IF MEDICAL RESULTS EXPIRED AND NOW IM PREGNANT, I DONT THINK I'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE MEDICAL TESTS RE-DONE DUE PREGNANCY. MY QUESTION IS: WILL THIS AFFECT MY CASE? WILL IT CAUSE DELAYS ON THE CASE??

Is your husband a PR or Canadian citizen? If he's a citizen, the baby will also be a Canadian citizen when born, even if it is in your home country. If he's a PR and the baby is not born in Canada, the child would have to be added to the application if it hasn't completed processing by the time he/she is born. In my opinion, you should advise CIC that you are pregnant. It may not speed anything up but it certainly won't hurt your application. Since your medical has expired, you will most likely have to do another one. However, you may not be able to do this because of your pregnancy until either after the child is born or until the last tri-mester due to concerns of the effect of X-rays on the unborn child. If another is required, you can speak to the DMP about the safest way to do it and seek their recommendations.

i can't add a lot (other than i had my baby on October 1st, the day before i submitted my paperwork for my husband)....

since CIC was aware of my pregnancy (it was mentioned on a few occassions in the application), they did request the baby's birth certificate. Other than that there was no extra delay in the processing... they requested bc on Feb 11, then called us back to say they couldn't find the bc copy they had made, so to bring it in again on Feb22, and also requested his passport at that same time... might have just been our lucky day tho, supposedly it adds a 60-90 day delay when they request something to the next "bring forward" date...

if you are still processing by the time the baby is born, you should send the baby's birth certificate in without being asked if possible, along with proof that the baby's citizenship paperwork is underway (and likely won't be finished by the time your PR is issued, so you'll need to get emergency travel papers for the baby from the Canadian Embassy) and a coverletter explaining it all...

as mentioned, with your expired medicals, there's a good chance that your baby will be born outside of canada, so it's probably best to get everything in order to make a move ASAP once (s)he is born... get all the balls rolling that need to be rolling, and be prepared for what work needs to be done.... but who knows... maybe CIC will surprise by making an exception on the medicals and issue a PR without an xray done? I'm confident that stranger things have happend!

good luck and congrats!

Having a child has absolutely no affect on the application, the only thing it may to i confirm that your relationship is genuine with your husband, You will be able to do the medical checks while pregnant
you will be requested to do them over after they have expired
you should fax them with the news that you are pregnant and as soon as the child is born get her a passport and add her to the application. Hopefully it will not sloww down the process

They will let you do the medical evaluation, however as discussed above, the DMP would not conduct the xray portion (not even sure about the 3rd trimester... maybe it's up to their discretion, i've heard most will not do it at all during pregnancy)..... typically CIC would not accept the medical results until complete.... not sure if an exception would be made in this case, i've not heard of any being made, but who knows...

also, lilyvb, one thing to consider if you do happen to get the PR prior to delivery, is health coverage.... if you are coming to Ontario (or another province that has a waiting period), you may be without health coverage for the pre-natal care and delivery... there are some organizations that will help, but you may be required to demonstrate hardship of some sorts... another thing to prepare for just in case!

i'm only privy to the Ontatrio system.... i *think* bc has a waiting period too, not sure, but it should be easy to find out...

we have a 3m waiting period for coverage here... (some) midwive services here can be booked without charge, if you're not interested in a home birth, you would need to find out about what services are available to cover hospital births... i'm sure contacting a woman's group would help (one geared towards immigration would be the best)...

I think you should find out more about the baby's citizenship. I remember my wife telling me about a change recently. If a parent is Canadian, it might no longer be enough - THAT parents parent needs to be Canadian too, unless the baby is born in Canada

good point, this is sort of true :)

the actual law is that if the canadian citizen father was born outside of canada to canadian parent(s) (ie. got citizenship by birthright), then the new baby is not, by birthright, a citizen.... if the father is a citizen by birth in canada, or by immigration/naturalization, then the baby has citizenship by birthright..

(it's a bit more involved than that as there are dates that are associated to when these conditions apply, but for all extensive purposes, that's the gist of it)

IM KIND OF CONFUSED. MY HUSBAND'S PARENTS ARE BOTH CANADIANS AND MY HUSBAND IS CANADIAN AS WELL, SO I GUESS THIS WOULDNT BE AN ISSUE RIGHT??

MY HUSBAND IS STILL CONCERNED ABOUT LETTING CIC KNOW ABOUT PREGNANCY, HE THINKS IT MIGHT DELAY THE PROCESS... I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. BUT WHAT HARM WOULD IT DO IF THEY DONT KNOW? WHAT IF I GET MY PR BEFORE DUE DATE??
