good point, this is sort of true :)

the actual law is that if the canadian citizen father was born outside of canada to canadian parent(s) (ie. got citizenship by birthright), then the new baby is not, by birthright, a citizen.... if the father is a citizen by birth in canada, or by immigration/naturalization, then the baby has citizenship by birthright..

(it's a bit more involved than that as there are dates that are associated to when these conditions apply, but for all extensive purposes, that's the gist of it)
Hey,

So your saying if one of the parents is a canadian citizen , but was born out of Canada , any babys that this parent has that are born outside Canada do not get the citizenship ? if you have writen proof of this it would be great

Thanks

MY HUSBAND IS STILL CONCERNED ABOUT LETTING CIC KNOW ABOUT PREGNANCY, HE THINKS IT MIGHT DELAY THE PROCESS... I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. BUT WHAT HARM WOULD IT DO IF THEY DONT KNOW? WHAT IF I GET MY PR BEFORE DUE DATE??
There really is no harm in not telling them its up to u (and what makes you happy :) ) some people prefer to tell and some dont but when the baby is born and if you dont have your PPR yet thats when u have to tell them about the baby .But in your case the baby should get the citizenship right away so Im not sure if he/she should be added to app since he will be a citizen.

The only delay like others already said is if they reqeust another medical ..u wont be able to do the x-ray until the baby is born

as mentioned... there's no real harm in telling them... there is no "box" for pregnancy on the forms, the only thing that the call centre *might* do is put a notation on your account... they'll probably just suggest that you forward birth papers in as soon as possible if you are still processing...

that aside, CIC will find out about the pregnancy anyways when they ask for your medical redo and it comes back either incomplete or denoted that you are pregnant.... then they will proceed as they wish (which will likely wait until you give birth to complete the medical, and add the baby on the forms (as a canadian citizen child), they'll want to see proof of birth (birth certificate) and possibly proof that you've initiated the citizenship process, two things you're going to need to do anyways)...

Thanks for the link:

This means that children born to Canadian parents in the first generation outside Canada will only be Canadian at birth if:

1.one parent was born in Canada, or
2.one parent became a Canadian citizen by immigrating to Canada and was later granted citizenship (also called naturalization).

So I guess citizenship at birth is not only limited to having one of the parents born in Canada.

Thanks once again :)

thanks once again to you all for your answers, i dont wanna be seen to b a dumb person lol, im just so worried i dont even think straight. But what really confuses me its that when we started our process, the processing time for Dominican Rep. was 18 months, then it changed to 14 months, now its 12 months, so i dont know if this time line will apply to our case, and im not even sure what stage of the process we are on cuz E CAS doesnt say much, so if they are actually processing in 12 months it means we could hear from them anytime soon, and about 2 or 3 weeks ago they added a 2nd thread with my name on it and it said "medical results received" when i clicked it, it said they started my permanent residence application on april 19, 2010 and they've received my medical results, nothing else, after a while it changed to just "application received on april 19, 2010" :-\

ecas is, for lack of better words, broken beyond compare... they are in the process of changing systems and hopefully future applicants will have the benefit of a more responsive, informative tool.... as they upgrade/change/do whatever it is they are doing, random updates have been generated, information has gone missing and reappears at seemingly random times... usually does this on a mass level (you'll see many people have had the same updates you have)....

while it used to provide (oftentimes cryptic) clues that your application had progressed to some degree, ecas is now presently not a reliable tool to use :(

Sorry!
